Full-Time Functional Safety Manager

At our Oevel site in Belgium, Cummins is developing innovative electrolyzer technologies that can generate hydrogen for various applications with zero emissions – contributing to a safe and healthy environment for future generations.

 

We have a new product development pipeline that includes medium and large-scale platforms for our PEM (HyLYZER) and Alkaline (HySTAT) technologies, and we are looking for a collaborative and experienced Functional Safety Manager to oversee the implementation and maintenance of the functional safety management program for Cummins’ electrolyzer systems covering the entire safety lifecycle.

 

This position will be based in Oevel, Belgium.

 

Your impact will include the following:

• Develop a safety architectural platform that includes key features and functional variants needed for Functional Safety Management compliance including third party certification. These platforms must be set up with traceable safety requirements and verification metrics in accordance with industrial functional safety standard IEC 61511, IEC 62443, IEC 61508, and IEC 62061 standards.

• Be responsible for the use of this architectural platform in the planning and coordination of functional safety in new product development activities, including the development of the safety plan, and the monitoring the progress of the safety activities against the safety plan.

• Facilitate functional safety assessments and audits (internal & external), competency management, functional safety system change management, and collating and reporting findings to senior management, as well as providing recommendations for product or process changes for functional safety compliance and process improvement.

• Ensure that HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA, FS assessments, and other analysis, calculations, reports, and component certification records are complete and kept up to date for the product portfolio.

• Be aware of the latest safety legislation and regulations impacting the projects they work on and to be able to inspect the relevant standards and regulations for areas that must be complied with for a global product platform.

• Keeping up to date with standards and legislation changes related to functional safety in order to ensure that internal policies are continually updated, and that engineering practices comply with this policy.

 

 

To be a success in your role you will need: • Profound experience in a Functional Safety role with knowledge of the full Functional Safety life cycle, Functional Safety system design, implementation, and maintenance within process industry is essential. • Solid understanding of System Engineering principles in conjunction with product development lifecycle. • Proven track of performing and managing functional safety audits and assessments.

• Deep knowledge and practical experience with IEC 61511 requirements, with Functional Safety certification in Safety Instrumented Systems is required.

• University, or equivalent bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Process, or Chemical engineering is required
