World class Defence Equipment requires world class maintenance and support to sustain its capability in the most challenging environments around the globe.

Defence Equipment and support (DE&S) have a Fixed Term Appointment (FTA) opportunity for a Technical Through Life Support (TTLS) / Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Practitioner.

The role can be worked remotely – now and post Covid-19, but business needs may require some travel to the RAF Waddington site in the future.

As a TTLS / ILS Practitioner, you will have a challenging and rewarding career, helping to shape the future development and implementation of innovative support solutions for some of the most complex, dynamic and cutting-edge technology used by the UK Armed Forces.

Working collaboratively with a range of other specialists you will utilise ILS methodologies to assist in the planning and delivery of technical support arrangements for military platforms or equipment.

This could range from designing a support solution from concept through to manufacture, optimising support during its in-service phase and supporting the efficient disposal of equipment at its end of life. You will be working collaboratively, with designers in industry and the armed forces as end users, to provide the cost effective and technically cutting-edge support solutions required by the wide range of equipment used in defence.

Responsibilities

• Contributing to the definition and development of the platform/equipment’s ILS plan and associated documentation using ILS methodologies.
• In liaison with colleagues develop, implement and optimise support solutions through the provision of relevant, timely and accurate support information, data and analysis.
• Assist colleagues set, manage and improve platform/equipment availability, reliability and sustainability targets considering levels of failure, repair and engineering service requirements.
• Help to define, manage and adjust Service contract arrangements.
• Provide specialist technical support, e.g. tools, test equipment, software, training, technical documentation and publications.
• Assist with the design and introduce platform/equipment updates and upgrades ensuring due diligence to all aspects of ILS.
• Provide specialist obsolescence support, working with other specialists to manage platform / equipment obsolescence and ensure adherence to the platform/equipment Obsolescence Plan.
• Support the planning for platform/equipment end-of-service life.
• Identify and manage Technical Through Life Support Risks to support the ILS programme of work (i.e. its outputs); prioritising as required to meet end users’ needs.
• Transfer of publications and documents of airworthiness and engineering records across multiple IT systems.
• Review the ILS documentation in support of the aircraft and the airfield support equipment.

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Experience of working in at least one of the following fields: ILS, supportability, or technical operations management
• Experience of, (or skills that are transferrable and relevant to), delivering product support, equipment support solutions and/or the optimisation of product performance
• Demonstrate knowledge of ILS methodologies and processes
• Ability to assist with the development of the ILS planning activities
• Competent in the use of Office 365 and associated tools.

About your team

The Integrated Logistics (iLog) Function is the integrating Function for Support within DE&S, responsible for the development, management and delivery of in-service support for our front-line command customers. The iLog Function consists of around 2,900 personnel, both civil servants and military, and with a wide range of disciplines ranging from operations management and supply chain management, technical through-life support and logistics delivery, to modelling and analysis.
