Position Title:  Friends For Change Support Staff 

 

Who is Friends For Change?

Friends For Change (FFC) is an afterschool and summer program of Youth Services inc.  based in Bellows Falls Vermont. FFC was created for and by youth most impacted by systems of oppression. We function with an equity lens and are youth-led/adult-guided. We value play and understand its healing and learning benefits. We use a restorative justice framework to address conflict and build community. Here’s how our youth describe us: 

 

 “FFC is a place to be weird and funny. We are comforting and loving, there are a bunch of people who will support you. We are similar but different and that’s good! Like me, it’s good that I am mexican!” Juan 14

What will I be doing? How will I make a difference?

The FFC support staff will make a difference in our community by…

 

  • Attend and support afterschool and summer programing for youth ages 11-22
  • Provide transportation with program van to and from group for rural youth
  • Support young adult staff with program prep and clean up tasks 
  • Support parent/caregiver outreach by co-planning family events 
  • Assist program coordinators with culturally reflective, accessible data collection 
  • Work with youth to document program events/activities through story collection and photography 
  • Join a collaborative and supportive team that is flexible and committed to seeing each other as whole people beyond our job roles 

 

What the youth are looking for: 

 

  • “Be fun, act silly, and have a sense of humor” 
  • “Be compassionate, nice, and supportive”
  • “We want someone laid back, who’s not uptight, who can be themself with us” 
  • “Ask us how we are doing, take the time to check in on us when we are alone” 
  • “Please don’t be mean or yell at us” 
  • No homophobia or Racism! 
  • “You gotta be OK with how we talk and act, don’t be offended by cursing” 
  • “Be cool and chill, and willing to participate” 
  • “It’s a plus if you’re a gamer or you know how to cook”

 

Additional Information

Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, a personal vehicle to use for work purposes and auto insurance. Staff will be reimbursed for applicable mileage

 

Position applicants reviewed until filled 

Summer program 30 hours per week 

After School program 20 hours per week 

This position is guaranteed for 1 year with strong possibility of continued employment

  • Lived experience related to generational trauma 
  • Experience working with most impacted youth and/or families in a volunteer, internship, or paid position
  • Knowledge of adolescent development
  • Experience with outdoor and/or play based learning
  • Intentional Peer Support training/experience
