The UK Military Flying Training System Programme is exciting, challenging and innovative. It is a ground-breaking initiative, which combines the skills of the MoD and industry in a holistic flying training system to deliver a range of different roles and skills. It will significantly improve training by bringing together the current range of training schemes into a single modern and cohesive programme, underpinned with the best training media to enable our students to succeed within the field of air operations of the 21st century.

BAE Systems are on contract to deliver Export Hawk to international customers; however, with airspace constraints, opportunities are being explored to operate Export Hawk aircraft in the UK. In order to operate in the UK, and under governance of the Military Aircraft Register, the aircraft will need to be certified in accordance with the Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Publications.

Responsibilities

As the Safety Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the Military Type Certification, an initial Release To Service Recommendation and development of an Air Systems Safety Case to support the UK military registration of the Export Hawk aircraft. Artefacts that would need to be produced include, but not limited to: The Air Systems Document Set; Support Policy Statement; aircraft specific policy documents; Maintenance schedule; Statement of Operating Intent and Usage; Air System Equipment Safety Assessment Report; Type Certification Basis; Type Certification Exposition; and Release To Service Recommendation audit trail and revision of the UKMFTS Safety Management Plan & Environmental Management Plan.

Main tasks include, but are not limited to:

• Working within a pan-stakeholder team, including Aviation Duty Holders, Release To Service Authority, Military Aviation Authority, Design Organisation, Handling Squadron to deliver a Military Type Certificate and Release To Service which meet the capability requirements of the customer.
• Production of the platform Equipment Safety Assessment.

The position of Export Hawk Safety Manager is being offered under Fixed Term Appointment TACOS of 18 months due to duration of project. There is potential, dependent on business needs and successful candidate aspiration, for an opportunity to apply for a permanent appointment to similar roles before the end of the fixed term.

Although the post will be primarily based in Bristol, we may consider remote working for the right candidate.

What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• Have experience of working within the Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Publications environment;
• Have experience of producing safety assessments in an Air environment.
• Have Air Domain experience preferably in a Defence environment;
• Must possess excellent negotiation skills and the ability to build highly effective relationships.
• Relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification or demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.

It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Experience of working in a DE&S Delivery Team.
• Have experience of producing Equipment Safety Assessment Reports and Hazard logs.
• Systems experience particularly in the development/sustainment of complex systems.
• Experience of in-service support including stakeholder management.
• Have experience of developing Equipment Safety Assessment Reports.
