Who You Are

Position Details

The Executive Director, Program Implementation (“EDPI”) will be based out of a home office located in Memphis, TN.

The EDPI reports directly to the Senior Executive Director, Program Implementation.

 

Position Overview

The Executive Director, Program Implementation (EDPI) will collaborate with other senior leaders to set and drive a clear vision and culture of excellence for high-quality program implementation across the organization. The EDPI provides strategic direction and leadership to a high-performing, results-oriented team committed to excellent implementation of New Leaders’ programming across all district and charter partnerships aimed at building leadership skills and instructional expertise of participants. The EDPI serves as New Leaders’ primary liaison and active thought partner with district and charter partners to build comprehensive strategic multi-year programming that provides opportunity for leadership development and whole school improvement at scale.

 

What You’ll Do

Specific Responsibilities

Collaborate with the External Relations Team to build a solid philanthropic portfolio and meet regional fundraising goals.

  • Partner with the External Relations Team to formulate and execute a solid fund development strategy that is aligned to local school district and stakeholder priorities.
  • Collaborate with the External Relations Team to effectively steward New Leaders’ current portfolio of funders and build a robust pipeline of potential donors.
  • Brief the External Relations Team on partner satisfaction and impact and likelihood of renewal.
  • Facilitate gathering of critical program data to support grant applications and funder reports.

Renew comprehensive strategic multi-year programming that provides opportunity for impact, scale, and financial sustainability.

  • Establish credibility to influence decisions and serve as a thought partner to ensure that we are both meeting partner needs and delivering on our commitments.
  • Provide program updates to district/charter leadership (and school board as appropriate) regularly.
  • Diagnose partner’s needs and identify opportunities for expansion.

Establish consistent systems, practices, and routines to create and sustain high-quality program implementation aligned to local context and participant needs.

  • Establish clear expectations and routines to support consistent planning, preparation, and delivery of programming (CoPs, Coaching, Leadership Walks etc.) to support alignment to local context and participant needs.
  • Support strong delivery of Community of Practice/coaching sessions, structured to support participants with making equity-based decisions, facilitating equity-focused and racial justice conversations, using data to diagnose and solve challenges, and building a common language around effective leadership.
  • Provide direct feedback on quality, and impact of program content, delivery and participant/partner experience to critical organization stakeholders (Program Design, Technology, Senior Program Leadership etc.).

Provide high quality feedback and coaching to improve manager of operation practice, director practice, and participant learning.

  • Collaboratively set individual staff and team goals and professional development plans.
  • Implement a year-long cadence of observation and feedback aligned to staff/program goals and needs.
  • Ensure Directors receive on-going training, development, and support to continuously improve practice.
  • Leverage full complement of program data, observations, and staff self-reflections to inform end-of-year performance evaluations.

Implement consistent systems, practices, and routines to create and sustain a high performing team culture:

  • Establish clear expectations and norms for team collaboration and performance.
  • Implement regular cadence of individual check-ins and team meetings to support shared learning, collaborative problem-solving and progress monitoring to set all team members up for success.
  • Establish, reinforce, and model the practices and behaviors of a high performing, results-oriented team.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

What You Bring

Skills, Experiences and Competencies

Belief that every student, in every circumstance, can achieve the highest levels of academic excellence, and passionate commitment to New Leaders’ mission and vision.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a school setting required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience leading professional development in an adult leadership setting preferred.
  • Experience as a direct supervisor of principals preferred.
  • A minimum of 4 years as a principal preferred.
  • Equity-driven with demonstrated ability to work well with people from a wide diversity of demographic and cultural characteristics; must be capable of achieving results while maintaining an inclusive, collaborative leadership style.
  • Understands components of high-quality instruction: pedagogical practice; college and career readiness standards; rigorous instructional materials
  • Proven record of success supporting adult learning around: using multiple data sources to inform instructional decisions; using a cycle of inquiry and action-research; and leadership development.
  • Solid understanding of adult leadership development and program design, planning, execution, and evaluation; significant credibility with educators, principals, principal managers, and district partners.
  • Excellent communications, relationship management, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong strategic thinking, planning and execution skills; ability to operationalize strategies and produce significant and sustained programmatic results and improvements.
  • Experience includes balance of strategy, planning, and implementation, and an approach that includes using data to inform decisions and make program improvements; and demonstrated strength in execution.
  • Highly effective delegation, influence, and performance management abilities, including objective setting, coaching, development planning, and driving results.
  • Must be compelling in external relations settings (e.g., client and funder meetings; speaking engagements).
  • Flexibility in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of your time (temporarily suspended).
