Job Description

3rd Decade is seeking an Executive Director to scale the impact of the organization nationally with a focus on building diverse cohorts of young people who can benefit from our mission to change financial futures forever, starting now. 3rd Decade provides financial educational training, 2-years of free financial mentorship, and up to $1,000 matching Roth IRA investments to young professionals between the ages of 18-35 across the United States.


Vision for the Executive Director:

3rd Decade is scaling nationally with the expectation of 10x growth in the next 5 years. With a focus on diversity and inclusion, the vision is to grow from serving nearly 500 new participants in 7 cities in 2021 to supporting 5,000 new young people nationwide by 2026. Building diverse recruitment partners, leveraging national networks of diverse mentors and optimizing staffing and internal infrastructure to scale is a critical part of the incoming Executive Director’s role. This is a role focused on going big with a heavy focus on fundraising and partnership cultivation.


Position Overview:

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall strategic development, growth, management, brand reputation, and fiscal health of 3rd Decade. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leadership: Provide strong visionary leadership to ensure 3rd Decade executes its mission, delivers world-class programs, reaches diverse participants, and has the desired impact in the world. This includes positioning 3rd Decade as a thought-leader in the space.
  • Scale with a focus on DEI: Drive new strategic choices around marketing, partnerships, and other opportunities to scale the impact of 3rd Decade to serve more diverse participants nationwide.
  • Fundraise: Identify prospective supporters, guide cultivation process, make the “ask,” secure funding, and create an environment in which all donors are valued, engaged, and recognized for their contribution.
  • Board Development: Support activities related to the Board of Directors and further develop and support the Board of Directors as it grows into a more diverse, fundraising and partnership focused national board.
  • Strategic Planning: Work with the Board of Directors to create and execute a multi-year strategic plan. Ensure a holistic, participatory, collaborative approach that honors all ideas and includes multiple stakeholders.
  • Public Presence: Ensure 3rd Decade maintains a well-respected brand, speaks publicly at conferences, events, and serves as lead spokesperson for all media relations.
  • Fiscal Management: Oversee the entire organizational P&L, ensure budget is met or exceeded annually, manage all expenses within budget, report monthly financial progress to the Board Executive Committee.
  • Staff Culture/Management: Ensure a culture of diversity and inclusion, set internal organizational structure, manage the team towards meeting annual objectives, maintain a high level of staff retention & morale.
  • Compliance: Ensure the organization maintains good standing, complies with all local and federal laws, and has the proper protections in place to mitigate risk.



The successful candidate will be a high-energy, strategic, proactive, direct communicator committed to the vision and values of 3rd Decade, with demonstrated leadership experience in the non-profit sector managing teams, building partnerships, and fundraising. The following will generally define the successful incumbent:

  • Future-Thinker: the ability to lead the organization through the next iteration of programming in a digital environment leveraging technology and online modalities to scale impact.
  • Demonstrated racial equity and inclusion competencies: commitment to 3rd Decade’s core mission and ability to manage team, stakeholders, partner, and other relationships to ensure alignment.
  • Building Diverse Revenue Streams: proven fundraising ability with corporate, foundation, and individual donors coupled with a skill set and commitment to partnerships that drive earned revenue to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Compelling Communicator: Influential, articulate, and accomplished communicator with the ability to communicate with clarity, urgency, and power to diverse internal and external audiences including board and staff members, communities of color, business, policymakers, philanthropic investors, and social sector leaders.



  • Reports to: Board of Directors
  • Directly Manages: Programs Manager, Operations Manager, Marketing/Development Manager, Mentor Training and Development Coordinator

Compensation: $80,000-$120,000

Location: 3rd Decade is headquartered in Tucson, Arizona but with our national expansion, candidates from across the country are welcome to apply.
