Part-Time Events & Sous Chef
Job Description
The role of Events & Sous Chef is a dedicated and creative Events Chef with strong values, who can help us to grow our business. The Events & Sous Chef works closely with the Café & Events Head Chef to assist in the development and delivery of The Reader’s hospitality offer. We are looking for someone with a keen interest in food and a key focus on cleanliness, punctuality and teamwork. You will take the lead on the running of the overall daily operation of Events Catering as well as assisting the Café & Events Head Chef in the development of the Café kitchen catering offers and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and deliver exciting and high quality food offers for all events at The
Mansion House and for the Café kitchen, ensuring this is all costed appropriately - To bring a creative flare to the day-to-day kitchen practice. This means testing
new menu options on a regular basis with a commitment to evolve and develop the food offer primarily for events but also the wider catering offer. - Work closely with the Café & Events Head Chef to develop innovative seasonal
café menus. - Ability to devise, prepare and deliver all items offered.
- Ability to take the lead on delivering all of Event Catering at Calderstones
- To value and priorities the quality of taste and presentation of each dish.
- The ability to cost and price a menu effectively
- Flexible and adapts quickly and positively to new situations, keeping emphasis on a balanced approach.
- Ability to comply with sanitation regulations and work to safety standards
- To deputise for the Events & Head Chef on a regular basis with the responsibility to direct workload and priorities to the kitchen team and to manage both the staff and kitchen workspaces effectively. This includes maintaining a high standard of food hygiene practice and cleanliness in food service spaces.
- To manage the delivery of all events catering and manage the kitchen team
working for each event to ensure the client’s needs are met to a high standard.
This includes providing excellent and efficient dinner service for events up to 200 people with a value of c.12k. - To represent the ethos and values of The Reader through all external and internal communications offering a kind and listening approach to be of service to customers and staff alike.
- Build strong relationships with external suppliers and actively seek now supplies
to increase quality and sustainability of ingredients. This requires excellent
communication skills. - Regular weekly meeting with the events team to refine processes and update on
new menu developments. - Ensure all cleaning schedules, food and fridge temperature records are current
and contain information required by food safety regulations with any testing
carried out as instructed. - To be responsible for placing all orders pertaining to events catering on a daily/
weekly basis to ensure stock arrives in enough time to prep and deliver. - Ensure all food is prepared in a timely manner for events. Take the lead on
delegating preparation tasks to the team supporting. - To communicate effectively within the wider Calderstones site team, especially
the events and front of house departments to ensure the events catering offer is
delivered efficiently and to a high standard - Collaborate with the events team to design a new process for menu tastings in
support the sale of new events food offers.

- Able to maintain a positive and professional approach
- Experience of dealing with suppliers
- Excellent communication skills with customers, suppliers and colleagues, and the ability to lead and inspire colleagues
- Willingness to undertake training as required
- Excellent standards of personal hygiene
