Full-Time Energy Auditor

Job Description

Energy Services Department since the Energy Auditor details work to be done. Work orders must be appropriate to the situation, measurements accurate, and priorities followed in order for crews and office staff to perform at their optimum level and to realize maximum energy savings for the client. Performs energy saving analyses, provides client energy and safety education, and assists with product research, materials ordering, tool and equipment maintenance, and inventory.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Supports and upholds Couleecap’s mission to fight poverty and promote self-sufficiency for individuals by helping to identify needs, mobilize resources, and provide quality services.
Initiates client contact after approved application is received.
Organizes and schedules houses to be inspected.
Trained in Pressure Diagnostics and identifies problem areas in homes for crews.
Performs furnace/water heater inspections to ensure safe operation.
Creates work orders and enters information into WIS-WAP computerized reporting system.
Fills out all appropriate paperwork in client file.
Assists the Inventory Manager in ordering special items, landlord issues, and special contractor work.
Performs in-progress and post inspections (quality control) as directed by Energy Services Director.
Approves change orders in cooperation with Inventory Manager, Energy Services Director and crews.
Attends meetings and training sessions.
Educates clients about energy conservation measures.
Prepares and submits reports in a timely and accurate manner.
Responsible for maintenance of tools and equipment (furnace analyzers, testing equipment).
Responsible for assisting with the QA Monitoring process as needed and directed by the Energy Services Director. Duties
may range from just coordinating up to and including managing the inspection process in its entirety.
Responsible for learning and becoming proficient with the various software and database programs used by the department, such as Microsoft Office, NEAT/MHEA electronic audit, and other diagnostic programs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires two years of education beyond high school; junior college, community college, or university; or 4 to 7 years previous experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to accurately measure window and doors.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to assess a problem and develop solutions, translating these into an organized, concise, accurate Field Data Collection Form and Work Order. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, landlords, contractors, weatherization personnel, and the public.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must be able to successfully complete the Energy Auditor training curriculum as defined by the State of Wisconsin and become a certified Energy Auditor within 18 months of beginning employment. Access to reliable, licensed, insured driver and transportation.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Five years or more experience in building trades field; thorough knowledge of carpentry skills and energy conservation methods; thorough knowledge of insulation and other required materials; or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities highly preferred. Knowledge of the operation of furnaces and distribution systems, boilers, and water heaters, furnace analyzer operations; Steady State Efficiency; and specific software such as Windows, Microsoft, Word, Excel, and spreadsheets highly preferred. Thorough knowledge of carpentry skills, weatherization products, insulation, and building materials, construction techniques, energy saving techniques, and codes highly preferred. Ability to work without direct supervision. Ability to plan and coordinate home visits to minimize excess driving time. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, landlords, contractors, weatherization personnel, and the public. Stability, reliability, resourcefulness, good judgment, tact, and courtesy. Ability to keep good records and make reports.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk up and down stairs; sit while in vehicles and in the office setting; reach with hands and arms using a tape measure and opening scuttle doors; talk while informing clients, landlords, and utility representatives of work to be performed and making appointments; and listen to client concerns. The employee is occasionally required to stand, climb or balance on ladders and balance on ceiling joists in attics; stoop in attics; kneel while inspecting houses; and crouch and crawl in attics and crawlspaces. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds (furnace analyzer and briefcase) and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (ladder).
