Job title: Employment Officer/Coach

Salary: £27,170 (£13,585 pro rata)

Contract: Until 31st December 2023 with potential for extension

Base: The Brain Charity, Norton Street, Liverpool. L3 8LR

Hours: 1xFTE (37.5hrs) or job share (2×18.75hrs)

Responsible to: Head of Employment and Welfare Projects

Background to The Brain Charity

Life for any of us can change in an instant. Experiencing a road traffic accident, a major stroke or being diagnosed with dementia can happen completely unexpectedly and can change our lives forever.

There are hundreds of different neurological conditions including stroke, brain tumour, brain injury, Alzheimer’s disease and many rarer ones too.

The Brain Charity offers emotional support, practical help and social activities to anyone with a neurological condition and to their family, friends and carers.

Role summary

We are really pleased to say The Brain Charity is growing year on year. We are now seeking an individual to deliver employability workshops and one-to-one support to young people affected by a (or many) neurological condition(s), and also support our wider employment and welfare department that deliver a range of services and projects to help people affected by a condition move into employment of closer to the job market.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with individuals with a variety of needs to deliver innovate and engaging employability support to boost self-independence, confidence and resilience at both group and individual levels.
  • Assess and support individuals affected by a neurological condition and help them better understand it.
  • Support individuals to explore and identify their developmental and employment barriers using holistic tools, and agree realistic and achievable action plans to address/overcome them.
  • To prepare and support individuals to undertake work experience, volunteering opportunities, enter paid employment, training and/or education
  • Support individuals to access government funding (Access to Work grant) which helps them to keep or find work, and explain their rights at work and reasonable adjustments.
  • Design coaching tools and resources and develop packages of practical employment support, tailored to individual need and ambitions
  • Undertake regular monitoring visits and/or reviews with individuals to ensure that all is well and that agreed progress is being made.
  • Support the team to meet its obligations with funders, including meeting any set objectives and/or targets

Quality, Research and Evaluation

  • To ensure that the projects recording, tracking, mentoring, monitoring and evaluation systems are implemented.
  • To provide regular reports on progress of beneficiaries and development to the Head of Employment and Welfare Projects
  • Actively seek feedback using a range of tools in order to improve future delivery of coaching, projects and services.
  • Ensure all service user files, personnel and other administrative records are kept up to date and regularly reviewed. Ensure that such data is securely stored following the principles of the Data Protection Act.
  • Support the collection of case studies which support the project’s evaluation and promotion.

Partnership Working

  • To work with a wide range of internal and external partners including; local employers, Job Centre Plus, Careers, the voluntary sector, further education colleges and training providers.
  • To liaise with employers to identify barriers and to implement any reasonable accommodations.
  • Build strong relationships with employers to ensure the best support is available for the individuals we work with.
  • To proactively keep up to date with services and opportunities provided by partner agencies that may benefit participants and support increased economic activity.
  • Disseminate updates to peers and work collaboratively across the Employment and Welfare team.

Other

  • Work to The Brain Charity’s policies and procedures.
  • Actively support promotional and fundraising events for The Brain Charity, attending a minimum of 1 fundraising or client-focussed event over the course of a year.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks which may be required by the charity from time to time.
  • Regularly provide cover for all aspects of the department you belong to during any absence relating to your colleagues.
