Full-Time Electronics Technician – Traffic Services – 2 Openings!
Job Description
- Maintain and repair electrical, electronic, and computerized traffic control systems throughout NCDOT Division 8.
- Assist in the installation, testing, upgrades, and inspections of new and existing Traffic Control Systems.
- Install traffic signal equipment using wiring detectors.
- Install and wire controllers.
- Trace out electrical wiring diagrams to locate trouble.
- Dismantle and reassemble components.
- Replace worn/faulty parts.
- Install/remove traffic signs and other traffic control devices.
- Maintain computer records for all signal work, your time worked, and all materials.
- General knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the safe and efficient use of tools, materials, and test equipment used in the electrical/electronic trade.
- Ability to diagnose sources of equipment failures and repair/maintain complex electrical equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, comply with all safety rules and policies to maintain a safer work environment, maintain proper records of all signal work accomplished, and keep an accurate record of time worked and all materials used on a computer.
- A Class A Commercial Driver’s License. (Don’t have it? Still apply! You can get it through our On-the-job Training within 360 days of hire).
- Strength to lift up to 85+ pounds to shoulder high.
- Ability to use and operate aerial bucket truck up to 50 feet high.
- Considerable knowledge of MUTCD and NCDOT traffic signal specifications.
- Ability to troubleshoot nonstandard traffic electronic equipment and equipment with incomplete or missing documentation.
- Ability to work in extreme cold and hot conditions, exposed to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction.
- Safety toe footwear.
- Your work will be performed without constant supervision and will be evaluated by your supervisor to ensure an efficient use of time and proper operation of repaired/maintained Traffic Control Systems.
- Overtime work is required when necessary, and you will be subject to emergency callback.
- You may be required to work during non-traditional work hours including weekends, holidays, nights and times of emergencies.
- We will check with your employers over the past 3 years about controlled substance and alcohol.
- Associate’s degree in Electronics, and
- 1+ year experience in the repair and maintenance of specialized electronic devices, preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
