Job Description

The Atlanta Office of the National Wildlife Federation’s South Central Region, seeks a part time (20 hours per week) education and outreach coordinator to help advance the goals of our education strategic plan, specifically as they relate to our Eco-Schools USA and Earth Tomorrow programs. Eco-Schools USA, combines environment-based learning with hands-on experiences to spark action in the classroom that ripples out in to the greater community. Utilizing a Seven Step Framework, students from pre-K through 12th grade are engaged in making their community and the world a more sustainable place to live. Earth Tomorrow is the National Wildlife Federation’s multicultural environmental education and leadership development program, creating opportunities for youth in underserved communities to develop environmental literacy and life skills that will help them make valuable contributions to the ecological health and leadership of their communities. The primary responsibilities of the Education Outreach Coordinator will be to maintain and support the expansion of these programs in Atlanta and the greater metro area. This position will report to the Manger of Education and Outreach, Georgia

In this role you will:

Assist the Manager of Education and Outreach organizing all facets of advancing the NWF’s Education programs in Atlanta and the greater Metro Area. This includes outreach, coordination with diverse stakeholders (students, teachers, and school administrative personnel etc.), development of training and orientation programs for school audiences, youth engagement, volunteer recruitment and management, event coordination, program documentation and tracking, and database management as applicable.
Develop and implement an outreach plan to recruit an additional 100 new schools over the next 3 years to the Eco-Schools USA and Earth Tomorrow programs in Atlanta and the surrounding counties in the greater metro area.
Through a partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI), work with 5,000 students to implement community service projects that align with Eco-Schools USA pathways.
Support existing Eco-Schools and Earth Tomorrow clubs through direct engagement such as professional development, school visits, and email communication.
Recruit up to 50 students on annual basis to apply for the Earth Tomorrow Summer Institute.
Work with the Manager of Education and Outreach to develop and execute a communications and social media plan to help raise the public profile of NWF education programs operating in Atlanta and the greater metro area.
Develop marketing materials to help promote the Eco-Schools USA and Earth Tomorrow programs.
Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications

A College Degree in Environmental Science, Education, Wildlife Biology, Communications, or related field.
2 years of relevant work or volunteer experience in formal or informal education, outreach, providing trainings, and volunteer management.
Skilled public speaker and presenter
Professional demeanor with the ability to exercise cultural competency and inclusion
Superior work ethic and attention to detail
Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with word processing, databases and PowerPoint software preferred
Ability to establish and cultivate relationships with potential partners and volunteers
Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds, ranging from public officials to neighborhood residents
Ability to balance supervisor direction with being a self-starter
Sincere and demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability and education
Experience in social media targeting and communication
Ability to identify good story opportunities
Must have a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.
There will be travel in this role, and will be restricted to no more that 20%. Evening and weekend work may be necessary.
