Reporting to the Science Action Club (SAC) Manager, the Education Marketing Coordinator is responsible for producing graphic and written content for promotional materials that help SAC tell our story and engage new audiences. The position will produce flyers and ads, coordinate email and social media campaigns, make updates to SAC’s webpages, and provide insights from the analytics across all platforms. The position is a hybrid of on-site and remote work from home in CA and can change as business needs warrant. The candidate must easily be able to work onsite in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco when needed. Candidates are required to have up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination, including receiving a booster shot, as a condition of employment, absent qualifying exemptions in accordance with applicable laws. Science Action Club is an out-of-school time education program for middle school youth that leverages community and citizen science to address science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning goals, teach discrete STEM skills, improve environmental literacy, and foster strong STEM identities. The program features environmental science units that empower afterschool and summer learning program staff who take youth outdoors to investigate nature, contribute to authentic science research, and design strategies to protect the planet. Program staff receive training on how to use SAC kits and activities, as well as learn best practices for teaching STEM in the informal learning environment. From Anchorage to Albany, over 73,000 youth and program staff in 470 communities and 38 states have participated in SAC since 2011.


  • Design and produce print and digital assets, including flyers, ads, infographics, and e-newsletter campaigns
  • Collaborate with the social media and email marketing teams to produce online ads and build email campaigns
  • Support the development of annual marketing plans including working with external partners to design and run ad campaigns
  • Provide regular updates and insights on the performance of campaigns
  • Monitor and update SAC webpages using the Academy’s content management system
  • Gather information and prepare reports to help identify potential new markets or audiences
  • Moderate the SAC Educators discussion group online
  • Develop deep familiarity with the SAC materials and model, and support the SAC team to maintain the inventory
  • Represent Expanded Learning & Youth Engagement (EL&YE) and the Academy internally and externally, including helping to plan and facilitate events (virtually and in-person)
  • Contribute broadly to the Academy’s mission and assist with projects and initiatives that leverage strengths across the ELYE portfolio, including occasional support and/or light supervision of middle and high school youth in Academy programs
  • Implement and follow all Academy safety regulations
  • Other duties as assigned


The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required or preferred.


A qualified candidate will have a combination of the following experience and/ or equivalent education:

  • At least 2 years of experience producing on-brand marketing materials (e.g. flyers, reports, infographics, e-newsletter campaigns), preferably for an educational organization
  • Experience working with or for out-of-school time program providers preferred
  • College-level coursework or professional training in marketing or communications preferred


  • Excellent graphic design skills to produce visually-compelling, on-brand marketing materials
  • Strong writing skills to create clear, succinct, and content-rich messaging
  • Proficiency with Google Apps and Adobe inDesign and/or Illustrator required
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with content management systems and HTML
  • Strong organizational skills; able to juggle multiple tasks with close attention to detail
  • Curiosity to tackle complex problems; ability to conduct analyses and recommend solutions
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy, good judgment, self-awareness and has a collaborative spirit
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and anticipate workflow
  • Ability to clearly communicate evidence and reasoning to support an argument
  • Demonstrated success working with multicultural and multigenerational constituents
  • Knowledge of the education field required; knowledge of the out-of-school time field preferred


This is a mandated reporter designated position. Academy employees whose duties include direct contact and supervision of children are deemed mandated reporters under California Law.
