Outstanding opportunity for a digitally minded and highly collaborative Editorial Manager, who brings experience editing for Educational, Training or Certification products.

Position can be located in either our Chicago or Orlando office.

The learning products offered by the National Restaurant Association reach nearly two million students each year. Our ambition is to provide our global audience with innovative, engaging training and certifications across multiple platforms. We produce a wide range of products in a variety of hospitality segments, from textbooks to custom online courses, through our ServSafe, ServSuccess, and AHLEI brands, among others. The portfolio is centered in digital offerings but includes a significant volume of print-based deliverables as well.

As Editorial Manager, you will oversee the Editorial function and voice for our training and educational products, owning the editorial processes, including workflow and editorial style, and managing a small editorial team.  You’ll work closely with the Director, Learning and Development Content, and collaborate with the Instructional Design and Creative Services teams.

Ideal candidates bring minimum five years of experience editing for Educational, Training or Certification products, across print and on-line delivery, including setting the vision for quality and best practices. Must bring thorough knowledge of Chicago Manual Style editing, strong copywriting skills and proven experience working with Storyline 360 or similar authoring software. The role requires a thoughtful, confident and highly skilled communicator, collaborator and team-builder. Previous experience as an Editor within the Association space a plus.


  • Ensure consistency, accuracy, and clarity in the application of the National Restaurant Association’s editorial style across all content
  • Work with content team to shape and develop the voice of the product to best serve the intended audience; ensuring consistency of features, terms, and overall language style.
  • Develop strong relationships with writers to ensure that a dynamic flow exists between the teams.
  • Ensure the voice of the product evolves as the design strategy evolves.
  • Manage a small internal team and additional contractors, as needed.
  • Ensure all editorial resources, budgets, and schedules are in alignment with the assigned product goals.
  • Create and oversee the development and maintenance of editorial standards and style guides for both print and online courses, including media.
  • Perform editorial duties for print and digital products, such as editing for grammar, spelling, and sentence mechanics.
  • Ensure products maintain an appropriate and consistent reading level.
  • Secure and manage copyright permissions for content, as needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Communications, English, Rhetoric, or Journalism required.
  • Minimum five to eight years of experience in editing educational products for both print and online delivery.
  • Thorough knowledge of current Chicago Manual of Style
  • Proven record of successful team supervision; people management skills, including coaching and motivating.
  • Ability to foster an open and supportive environment for providing and receiving feedback.
  • Demonstrative abilities in collaborative team and consensus building (including internal and cross-functional groups).
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict management, and diplomacy skills.
