Job Description

Editorial Assistant – Independent Evaluation Group

Part-time / Short-term temporary (STT)

Innovation and partnership bond the five institutions of the World Bank Group: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA), which together form the World Bank; the International Finance Corporation (IFC); the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA); and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). The Independent Evaluation Group’s (IEG) mission is to improve World Bank Group development results through excellence in evaluation. Within its mandate, and in line with the new Bank Group Strategy, IEG is focusing on  deepening evidence about the results of WBG program and activities – and their effectiveness for accelerating growth, inclusiveness, and sustainability – to contribute to the achievement of the World Bank Group’s interim target of 9 percent poverty reduction and progress on shared prosperity by 2020; and on generating evidence on the early implementation experience of the Bank Group Strategy to enable mid-course corrections and to promote a stronger internal culture for results, accountability, and learning.  IEG also aims to promote an operational learning culture in the World Bank Group by identifying and disseminating the lessons learned from evaluation work.

Evaluation is useful only when it generates critical evidence to inform and improve decision making. The mandate of the Knowledge and Communications Department is to strengthen IEG’s impact by increasing the accessibility and use of IEG’s evaluation knowledge, and by promoting effective evaluation partnerships and capacity development, both internally and externally. IEGKC staff work along three streams: (1) Communications, (2) Knowledge, Learning, and IT platforms; and (3) Evaluation Capacity Development.

The Independent Evaluation Group at the World Bank seeks an editorial assistant to assist the publishing officer in formatting and providing basic editing for reports, liaising with clients, assisting in photo research, maintaining schedules, and researching and preparing information on writing and editing topics for evaluators. The consultant should have excellent research and writing skills and be capable of transforming information into a variety of formats, including blogs, job aids, and informational booklets.

The contract will be a short-term consultancy for 1,200 hours (150 days) per year beginning in FY22 (start date planned for mid-July), and the work can be performed remotely. The assistant will be needed 25-30 hours per week, and the pay rate is $21 to $37 per hour, depending on experience. We are hoping for someone who can stay for at least two years. Successful applicants will be asked to submit a brief writing sample and complete a formatting test.
