Full-Time Editor, HR Brew

Morning Brew – Posted by lilymittman New York, New York, United States

Job Description

Hey there! We’re Morning Brew, a bunch of smart, dedicated people focused on disrupting and redefining the traditional business news landscape. Also, we’re nice and have great swag. We are looking for an Editor to join our B2B team.
While this position is based in New York City, office location will be contingent on stay-at-home orders; until then, all employees are working remotely.
It’s our goal to make the business world more engaging for the modern business leader. How? By giving our audience the news they need in a way they actually enjoy. Across newsletters, podcasts, social, and (soon) even more, we’re building something special.
Want in? Read on.
Overview
We are introducing a vertical to Morning Brew, all about human resources, and we’re looking for an editor to lead and shape coverage. This is both a strategic and hands-on role that will allow you to shape the future of this exciting new publication. If you like the challenge of starting an outlet from the ground up, setting editorial strategy and helping reporters execute on stories, well, we’ve got the gig for you.
As part of Morning Brew’s business-to-business (B2B) editorial strategy, HR Brew sits alongside three other B2B publications: Marketing Brew, Retail Brew, and Emerging Tech Brew.
HR Brew is a B2B publication that covers all aspects of a human resource professional’s job: from people management to recruiting; corporate policies to the shifts in the business landscape due to COVID-19, Black Lives Matter, and #MeToo.
The outlet will be a combination of original reporting and expert contributors offering advice, tips and research, all in service of the mission to help HR professionals make better decisions.
Here’s what you’ll be working on:
– Manage day-to-day operations of the HR Brew newsletter production process, including assigning/approving stories, editing pieces, and writing headlines.
– Manage, coach, and develop a team of two reporters.
– Overseeing a stable of contributors; managing said contributor network.
– Generate, develop, and execute ideas for non-newsletter products and other special editorial projects.
– Serve as a strategic liaison with growth, engagement, integrated marketing, and sales teams.
– Write stories if and as needed.
– Enforce Morning Brew editorial guidelines, editing content for high-level substance, Brew tone and voice, and standard copy.
– Support optimization of existing content processes and establish new ones where needed.
– Support analysis of audience trends.
What makes you qualified?
– Interest in the human resources industry, and the kinds of stories that speak to the HR professional.
– At least 5 years of professional editorial experience
– Experience managing a team of writers
– Ability to write in the Morning Brew style (engaging, informative, clever)
– Flexible worker who is equally motivated by strategic, long-term thinking and hands-on execution.
– Ability to intentionally experiment with, iterate on, and make hard decisions about new product offerings.
– Excellent communication skills with a mindset for collaboration.
– Ability to operate in a high-pressure environment with tight deadlines.
– Understanding of how to leverage multiple platforms (email, social media, etc.) to engage with the target audience.
