Job Description

Founded in 2013, EATS (Eat Awesome Things) Park City’s mission is dedicated to empowering and growing healthy communities with fun, food, and nutrition advocacy. EATS envisions a healthier generation through the guiding principles of: collaborative efforts within our Park City community to attain a holistic approach toward healthier children and their families, knowledge and understanding about food and where it comes from, minimizing food waste throughout the food system, nutrient rich foods, and an openness to learning about new foods and sustainable methods of growing food to support our community.

The EATS Park City/UCC AmeriCorps Project Coordinator is a 1700-hour AmeriCorps position and is primarily responsible for facilitating and coordinating within each of the three core educational focuses of EATS: Sustainability; Cooking and Nutrition; and Food Security. Working directly with the Director of Gardens and Sustainability, as well as the Staff Education Coordinator, this position will primarily research, advertise, promote, recruit, and manage labor and material requirements for EATS’ education programs. The Project Coordinator will also gather data and community input to report on programming and suggested areas for growth.

Through this experience, the Project Coordinator will get the opportunity to learn about school and community garden programs, volunteer management in a non-profit setting, evidence-based hands-on lessons and more! This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong leadership and relationship building skills.


Volunteer Coordination

  • Work closely with the Director of Gardens and Sustainability, the Staff Education Coordinator, and Executive Director to identify volunteer needs
  • Create a system to onboard volunteers (training)
  • Communicate effectively with volunteers through e-mail/phone/newsletters
  • Arrange volunteer days for school gardens
  • Identify and implement volunteer tracking and reporting tools
  • Properly recognize volunteers, including celebrations

Community Outreach

  • Represent EATS at community events, recruit volunteers
  • Implement systems for community feedback through survey and community conversations
  • Use social media and website to share information on positions

Project Planning

  • Ensure all labor and materials are acquired for EATS projects
  • Source materials through approved vendors and supplement as much as possible with contributions from the donor network, making asks of community businesses, partners, vendors, and other organizations
  • Organize and maintain proper amounts of supplies, inventory equipment, and coordinate borrowing of physical spaces or assets

Professional Development Opportunities

  • Attend trainings/webinars centered around food education in schools
  • Represent EATS at local conferences and networking opportunities
  • Connect with other local nonprofits and food focused organizations in Utah
  • Suggest opportunities of interest to the site supervisor to learn and grow in areas that would aid in the success of this role

  • Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool and experience working with information technology to develop and implement program evaluation systems

AmeriCorps Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • At least age 18 by the start of their term
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must undergo and pass a National Criminal History Check. Enrollment contingent on successful passing of criminal background search (including a FBI fingerprint-based criminal history check)
  • Must be eligible to serve in an AmeriCorps State/National term
  • Must have a commitment to completing the Term of Service (1700 hours)

Other Preferred Experience

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Two-years of college, four-year degree or graduate student preferred but not required. Experience is most important
  • Interest in nutrition and gardening
  • Driver’s license, reliable car, and good driving record
  • Public speaking skills
  • Computer skills
  • Ability to balance a variety of tasks simultaneously
  • Experience working with youth and/or adults in formal and/or informal education programs

Schedule and Compensation

The Project Coordinator will work an average of 40 hours a week for a total of

11-12 months to complete the 1700-hour commitment. Hours are flexible and depend on events scheduled and programming needs.

  • $16,502.00 gross living allowance (taxable; paid in even bimonthly disbursements throughout term of service)
  • $6,495.00 Education Award available to member upon successful completion term of service hours and dates.
  • Health insurance reimbursement up to $100.00 available for 1700-hour members who enroll through Marketplace
  • Federal student loan forbearance
  • Workers Compensation
