Full-Time Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator

Job Description

Thompson Coburn, a large full-service law firm with offices in seven (7) cities across the U.S., is looking for a Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator to fill a full-time non-exempt position in its St. Louis office. If you have a passion for supporting D&I initiatives, then we might have a position for you.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience in an Administrative Assistant role, preferably in a professional services environment. An Associate degree or equivalent degree/experience preferred. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule and the person selected for this position must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supports diversity and inclusion initiatives, as set by the Chief Diversity & Attorney Development Officer (e.g. sponsorships, diversity awareness calendar, Mansfield Rule participation, diversity and inclusion educational offerings, Eagleton Scholarship, Diversity Mentoring Program, etc. ).
  • Coordinates and prepares submissions or diversity-related surveys and applications for the Chief Diversity & Attorney Development Officer’s review and completion.
  • Collaborates with Marketing to update and maintain the diversity and inclusion intranet and website pages.
  • Maintains a calendar of internal and external diversity events and initiatives.
  • Assists with the Firm’s Supplier Diversity Program.
  • Performs all administrative tasks for the diversity and inclusion function and related committees, task forces and affinity groups.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Chief Diversity &  Attorney Development Officer.
Job Requirements
  • Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence.  Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Ability to think proactively and take independent action on handling requests, determining appropriate course of action and intervening on particular tasks when necessary, while keeping supervisor informed at all times.
  • Must have ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Must possess above average proofreading skills.
  • Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects and have strong time management skills.
  • Must have ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered.
  • Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  •  The physical demands of this position are representative of those that might be met by an employee in order for him or her to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.  These including being both mobile and stationary throughout the workday, having the ability to transport 20 pounds and being able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office.
