Full-Time Director of Systems Engineering

Job Description

Who are we looking for?

The Director of Systems Engineering plans, directs and advises all aspects of hardware and systems engineering activities.

Product Development 

  • Create and curate a technology roadmap that is synchronized with and supports the onboard product roadmap
  • Mentor engineers to embrace critical thinking, solid engineering practices and high-quality processes in order to create a pre-eminent systems engineering team 
  • Provide technological leadership to product managers and product owners to assist ART teams in the development of good requirements for features that contain hardware components
  • Champion the development of and adherence to processes such as ECN for the benefit of the business
  • Instigate, gain buy-in for, and implement ongoing hardware cost reduction programs
  • Drive and manage field issue resolution activities to completion including leading closure of 8Ds and reducing RMA removals in order to drive the reliability of our Product to our MTBF goals 
  • Create, administer, and control budgets
  • Collaborate with software organization to continuously evolve and improve our lab testing capabilities
  • Provide HR administrative role for staff including professional and personal development


  • Collaborate with the Director of Manufacturing to drive resolution of production throughput, yield, and quality issues for hardware
  • Support manufacturing by developing and improving automated testing facilities
  • Provide next-level support to manufacturing when required to handle RMA repairs 
  • Collaborate with and provide inputs for upskilling Production staff to become a pre-eminent team

Product Management 

  • Support commercial team on new opportunity proposals and quotes including providing the voice toward larger customer account strategies
  • Define and maintain epics and features in accordance with the portfolio management and feature creation process including lean business canvas, proposed pricing, ROI, continuous competitive analysis, requirements gathering effort consulting w/ customers & stakeholders, as well as financial objectives
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and mentor Product Owners to create a pre-eminent team

What will you need?

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • 10+ year’s overall relevant engineering experience
  • 5+ years’ experience managing an engineering team
  • Experience managing people managers
  • Experience creating and maintain budgets
  • Able to create and drive strategic initiatives
