This role is an influential leader in the organization and the sport, leading marketing initiatives, campaigns, and revenue driving tactics across the full organization. This role also oversees all internal and external communications, including the USA Triathlon magazine, editorial, digital, social media and public relations.  This leader will be enthusiastic, versatile, and strategic with the ability to connect ideas and action, and set up the structure, processes and outcomes to succeed. The ideal candidate can rally and drive a team, as well work effectively with all departments, while rolling up their sleeves and leading by example.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations for all organizational marketing initiatives, brand-related campaigns, email marketing, and promotional strategies for membership acquisition & retention and owned national events
  • Be a partner to the Foundation Executive Director to effectively and consistently integrate, support and promote the Foundation priorities and initiatives
  • Collaborate with USA Triathlon leaders to develop/manage marketing and communication plans to drive organizational priorities and key performance objectives
  • Create and execute creative concepts to support marketing and branding campaigns, programs, national/international events (including Olympic/Paralympic Games), and the sport as a whole; collaborate with USA Triathlon business units and external agencies
  • Lead the development, integration and ongoing support of the digital ecosystem including a new website and app
  • Work in partnership with Education, Strategy, Constituent Engagement teams to establish consistent high quality resources that support the triathlon/multisport community
  • Develop and deliver unique assets for current and future partners
  • Lead promotional plan to drive registration for USA Triathlon-owned events and National Championships
  • Lead strategic external approach to promoting Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and develop marketing roadmap toward LA 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games
  • Drive marketing and promotional value for USA Triathlon sanctioned events, official clubs and certified coaches
  • Develop and take ownership of KPI’s associated with marketing campaigns and initiatives to achieve organizational growth and revenue targets
  • Oversee the organizational brand, including streamlining the brand hierarchy and logo usage
  • Oversee e-mail marketing and constituent communications strategy and digital campaigns
  • Support new participation in the sport and drive membership growth by leveraging business intelligence and analytics in collaboration with Constituent Engagement (membership) and Strategy and Growth departments
  • Develop and oversee strategic partnerships with multisport entities around the world to drive interest, participation and innovation in multisport
  • Lead all communications efforts, including serving as the primary spokesperson, growing our media network, and managing proactive and reactive media relations and crisis management
  • Proactively and effectively manage relationship with strategic partner Outside, Inc., to continuously leverage and enhance our reach, credibility and influence, and drive additional value for our constituents

Department Management

  • Supervise a team of five staff members
  • Project oversight to confirm all work within the department is completed on time and meets success standards
  • Collaborates with the department team, cross functional teams and external stakeholders and marketing partners and agencies to update and enable more effective ways of working
  • Develop, own and report on departmental budgets
  • Provide consistent leadership and guidance for junior and management level department staff

Supervisory Responsibilities  

This position has supervisory responsibilities



  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in marketing, MBA preferred
  • Minimum five years experience leading marketing teams and programs
  • Highly organized and structured thinker able to distill complex ideas into manageable and actionable components
  • Ability to balance long-term thinking with practical implementation tactics and outcomes
  • Clear communicator, both verbal and written
  • Self-starter who identifies needs and proactively develops solutions/recommendations to address them
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues of all levels (including senior executives) and across various departments
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and manage priorities and expectations, as needed
  • Proficiency in contemporary digital technologies and social media platforms
  • Willingness to travel and work additional hours as necessary, including nights and weekends
  • Experience within, or knowledge of, the multisport or endurance industries preferred
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America

Salary Range

$75,000 – $105,000 based on experience
