About Director of Corporate Relations position:

The Director of Corporate Relations furthers the mission of ISMHS by assuming responsibility for the strategic growth of corporate partnerships statewide. The person in the role will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward funding relationships with corporations and professional organizations to meet or exceed annual revenue goals in support of the institution’s mission.

This position is a vital part of the development team and reports to the Vice President of Development. The Director of Corporate Relations will be based in downtown Indianapolis and occasionally be required to travel statewide to work directly with the communities surrounding ISMHS’ 12 locations, as well as to work occasional weekends and evenings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to build and strengthen relationships among corporations that result in an increase of funding support
  • Manage an active corporate portfolio of funders and prospects to secure support for exhibits, programs, and other institutional product offerings
  • Identify new corporate prospects through research, community outreach and relationship building to seek mutually beneficial partnerships
  • Cultivate funding relationships year-round by facilitating meetings and on-going communications, while identifying and encouraging opportunities for corporate participation and engagement throughout the museum system
  • Write and prepare compelling sponsorship proposals, as well as aggregate, monitor and share data relevant to institutional product offerings
  • Evaluate and update ISMHS’ sponsorship benefits program as needed to deliver on-going value to partners and remain competitive within the market
  • Work cross-departmentally within the museum system to ensure timely delivery of partnership benefits and compliance of all sponsorship agreements, including fulfillment of partnership deliverables and related marketing recognition
  • Track proposals, funder interactions, stewardship activities and reports through CRM database, Altru
  • Prepare briefing reports and serve as corporate funders’ primary liaison with ISMHS’ leadership team

Minimum Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent years of related work experience
  • Goal-oriented professional with strong organizational, project management and critical-thinking skills; must demonstrate initiative and ability to problem-solve
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as to orchestrate projects with internal and external stakeholders
  • Exceptional customer service and follow through
  • Ability to respond to people and situations with tact, diplomacy, discretion, and a sense of urgency
  • Ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment where priorities and direction may change frequently

ISMHS Expectations

  • Visitor-centric: Develop, provide and/or execute innovative approaches to connect with visitors to all 12 locations within the museum system. Make visitors feel welcome when they arrive, cared for and engaged during their visit and feel eager to return.
  • Utilize 12-location museum system: Serve as a resource and seek out resources from appropriate divisions across the entire ISMHS museum system. Help ISMHS stakeholders (visitors, members, partners, educators, etc.) understand the value they receive by engaging with the ISMHS locations throughout the state.
  • Externally focused: Seek out opportunities to showcase our presence in the community/communities where we live and work by serving on community committees/boards, engaging in community events, attending community conversations about issues that may either affect the ISMHS

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision for staff members.


The salary for this role is $65,000 per year.
