Job Description

Island Health provides health care and support services to more than 860,000 people on Vancouver Island, the islands in the Salish Sea and the Johnstone Strait, and mainland communities north of Powell River. Reporting to the Executive Director, Human Resources, the Director, Human Resources is accountable to oversee the strategic planning and operational requirements for multiple Human Resource teams, each of which are assigned to specific client groups throughout the organization. Overseeing a team of Managers, Human Resource Partner-based HR teams, provides HR leadership, expertise and creativity in the delivery of health human resource (HHR) related programs and services. In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Island Health, patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The Director, Human Resources is an integral part of the overall People portfolio leadership and Human Resource management team and as such contributes to the overall strategic planning of the People function within Island Health. Responsible for building the strength of their team(s); the role provides leadership through coaching and modelling key behaviours; and through facilitating consensus, removing barriers and mediating solutions. The measure of success in this position will be the stewardship of a cultural evolution in the delivery of a supportive, consultative and solutions-oriented partnership with its client base. In addition, supporting the enterprise people function to create Centres of Expertise and delivery of human resources services for the entire Island Health.
