Job Description

Cummins is looking for a talented Director Fuel Cell Powertrains to join our technical team specializing in Fuel Cell Powertrains for Cummins New Power Business Unit in Milpitas, California. Along with development of engineering capabilities within this organization, this role works closely with product planning, account management and the NPBU Powertrain General Manager. This role will need to be able to do customer prospecting as well as have awareness of commercial terms (warranty, pricing), ability to think strategically and communicate e?ectively with both internal and external parties

This technical leadership position develops and delivers technical talent in a research, technology or product development environment. Directly manages the resources that maximize organizational productivity in support of business needs and establishes/implements longer term business strategies. The position also includes maintaining strong working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders both within the technical function and across the broader business.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
• Primary responsibility is the development of technically capable people across multiple technical sites within a business unit or corporate area and making people available to perform duties necessary to satisfy the businesses technical needs.
• Provides technical leadership for the business’s most complex global technical challenges
• Sets the direction for the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or across business units.
• Coaches and mentors the future technical leaders across a global business unit or corporate area.
• Assesses performance and provides feedback to direct reports.
• Develops strategies, creates or improves work processes involving activities such as resource allocation and management, organizational and business change, customer/stakeholder management and knowledge management; all used for the purposes of enabling high quality decision making that meets business expectations.
• Decisions made in this role may include resource deployment cost and timing allocations, project prioritization, personnel staffing, and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) management, the result of which can impact project cost and delivery within a site or across several sites within a business unit.
• Establishes employee performance standards; works collaboratively to set goals and address areas of deficiency.
• Responsible for People Management including work plan development, performance management, and people development

REQUIRED SKILLS:
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Development and Management of Technical Function Standards and Practices – Creates and modifies standardized work processes, instructions, tasks or tools utilizing new learning and knowledge gained as part of product development, process improvement or other technical development activities; advises stakeholders with the goal of enabling improved technical productivity and effective knowledge transfer to others who were not originally part of the initial learning.

Solution Assessment and Validation – Assesses the proposed solution using the requirements traceability through the life cycle of the requirements to determine if they deliver the desired business outcome.

Requirements Analysis – Evaluates relationships and interdependencies between requirements based upon their complexity and value to the business in order to determine feasibility and prioritization.

Knowledge Management – Ensures perspectives, ideas, experiences and information are available in the right place and the right time using the required processes and tools to enable informed decisions.

Troubleshooting – Diagnoses and resolves the customer-identified issue by utilizing appropriate department standards to satisfy customer expectations.

Decision quality – Making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward.

Communicates effectively – Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

Builds networks – Effectively building formal and informal relationship networks inside and outside the organization.

Manages complexity – Making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.

Cultivates innovation – Creating new and better ways for the organization to be successful.

Experience
• Proven leadership as a Technical Advisor or Technical/Engineering Senior Manager working in a product, technology or engineering service area with a successful track record of developing technical talent and enabling high performing teams that deliver on project expectations through a range of varying business scenarios and/or life-cycles.
• Previous Director level experience or a minimum of 2 years in a Sr. Manager/Manager level role
• External customer facing experience with OEM’s and/or fleets
• Demonstrated Product Development experience
• Successful talent development experience for teams of 10+
• Advanced level proficiency in many of the enterprise and functional competency areas.

Education/Licenses
• College, university, or equivalent Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required
• This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
