Full-Time DevOps Engineer

Job Description

Thompson Coburn, a large full-service law firm with offices in seven (7) cities across the U.S., is looking for a full-time DevOps Engineer to join its expanding Information Services team. With over 400 attorneys and experience in 50 areas of law, Thompson Coburn is regularly recognized for its commitment to diversity and for providing clients with outstanding value and service. The DevOps Engineer will work with all levels of the Firm to automate and streamline processes, accelerate application deployment, and improve IS services. The person selected for this position must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. This exempt position is eligible for a flexible hybrid-remote work schedule.

Required experience and education:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience with PowerShell, SQL, REST APIs, and Data Formats (JSON, XML, YAML);
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience with OAuth, SSO, SAML, Git, GitHub, and Azure DevOps;
  • Current technical certificates in modern-era MS, software development, or cloud services, certifications such as Power Platform App Maker: PL-100, Azure Fundamentals: AZ-900, Designing and Implementing Microsoft DevOps Solutions:  AZ-400, or equivalent experience; and
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent degree/experience.
Preferred experience:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a law firm or professional services organization; and
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with MS Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps).
Job Responsibilities 
  • Collaborates with team members to assess and prioritize application requirements across the organization.
  • Serves as a key advocate to employ automation and improve processes for the Firm.
  • Works with the business units and stakeholders to automate business functionality.
  • Builds CI/CD pipelines and maintains code repositories.
  • Creates data integrations between disparate enterprise systems.
  • Mentors members of the department in the usage of automation tools and processes.
  • Assists in building automated test plans.
  • Provides work effort estimates based on user-defined requirements.
  • Ensures a sufficient level of documentation is maintained for the effective and efficient support of applications.
  • Supports and uses Project Management methodologies to accomplish operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Advocates for the development and deployment of services (on-premise and cloud) using Azure DevOps and agile methodologies across the department.
  • Promotes ITIL best practices within the department.
  • Performs ad hoc analysis and consultation with business users.
Job Requirements
  • Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to understand business requirements and effectively communicate technical challenges and requirements in lay terms for a clearer audience understanding of capabilities and limitations.
  • Experienced with ITSM/ITIL service management methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and lead technical work groups involving multiple specialties in support of system solution development and implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and articulate initial solution concepts to management and to translate from concepts into a solidified system solution for implementation and operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business requirements and recommend the appropriate technology and process solution to meet customer requirements.
  • A clear understanding of scripting and coding languages such as PowerShell, C#, JavaScript is required.
  • Demonstrated ability with a range of automation and configuration tools such as traditional scripts, as well as more specific tools such as Power Automate, Boomi, and Terraform is required.
  • Demonstrated ability with GitHub, Azure DevOps, including the full life cycle of development, and continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) methodologies is required.
  • Demonstrated ability with a diverse range of IT monitoring and management tools such as Azure Monitoring is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability with testing automation tools such as Selenium, Eggplant, Cypress is preferred.
  • Must thrive in a team setting and enjoy problem-solving with others.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and lawyer-friendly language.
  • Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest confidence.  Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
  • Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects, and strong time management skills.
  • Must have the ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered.
  • Ability to travel as necessary.
  • This is a full-time position that requires working a minimum of 40 hours on a regular basis.  Oftentimes, it may also require working outside of normal business hours to ensure completion of position requirements.
  • The physical demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the workday and having the ability to transport up to fifty (50) pounds and being able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office.
