Purpose of Position:

The Development Manager will provide administrative and project support to the Harry Ransom Center’s Development Department and will work in partnership with the Director of Development and staff to build long-term relationships with donors and increase support from individuals, foundations, and corporations.

Essential functions:

Function 1
Assist in developing and executing fundraising campaigns to increase annual giving from a broad base of donors. Provide project management and coordinate crowdfunding initiatives (40 for Forty, Hornraiser), annual fund campaigns, and corporate sponsorship for exhibitions, programs, and special projects. Conduct research to identify donor prospects, develop funding proposals and copy for direct mail and online campaigns, initiate outreach and follow-up, generate acknowledgements, and provide benefit delivery and stewardship.

Function 2
Assist in managing activities of the Ransom Center’s Advisory Council, including general administrative support; monthly communications; and planning, logistics, and execution of biannual meetings, receptions, and exclusive travel opportunities. Process, follow-up, and keep accurate records of annual contributions. Prepare meeting minutes and maintain member directory.

Function 3
Manage gift processing, account and donor coding, check deposits and delivery, and reporting of monetary and non-monetary gifts to the Ransom Center. Draft acknowledgements. Keep accurate donor records and maintain filing systems.
15% Time
Function 4
Work with Ransom Center and Texas Development staff to administer the Center’s endowments, maintain accurate records, manage the annual endowment compliance project, generate annual letters, and draft new endowment documents as needed.
10 % Time
Function 5
Collaborate with Center staff to plan, coordinate, and execute special events for donors and distinguished guests, including receptions, dinners, and the anniversary gala held every five years.

Provide general administrative support for Development Department and Director of Development. Hire, train, and manage student employees. Manage UT’s VIP donor database for the Ransom Center, ensuring prompt and accurate data entry and reporting. Generate mailing lists for fundraising projects and Ransom Center publications and coordinate their review. Prepare gift agreements and donor reports. Respond to donor requests and inquiries. Assist in general donor stewardship activities. Maintain supplies, publications, and equipment for development activities. Process payments and monitor department expense budget. Assist with travel and meeting arrangements and process expense reimbursements. Maintain development hard and soft files. Attend appropriate meetings and trainings of the Ransom Center and Texas Development. Work collaboratively, proactively, and in a professional, service-oriented manner with all staff and donors to further the development goals of the University and Ransom Center.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Two years of experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, or public relations.
• Demonstrated project management skills.
• Demonstrated high attention to detail and accountability.
• Highly effective communication skills (written, verbal, interpersonal).
• Excellent relationship-building experience with donors or clients.
• Self-motivated and goal-oriented.
• Outstanding time management and organizational skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills in a collaborative environment.
• Ability to multitask, reprioritize, and work well under pressure.
• Demonstrated database management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to use discretion and maintain integrity and professionalism.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:

• Three to five years of experience in a library, museum, non-profit, or higher education.
• Knowledge of UT Austin structure, policies, procedures, and software applications, including VIP.
• Experience working with confidential and complex information.
