Job Title: Development Director
Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director

Position Summary
The Development Director will lead the resource development efforts for Willis Dady which will include fundraising, communication, outreach and marketing. The Development Director will work closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, donors, and a range of community stakeholders. The Development Director will supervise a growing development team. The Development Director will inspire a thriving culture of philanthropy, oversee and grow an established donor portfolio and build positive, energizing relationships with individuals interested in the mission and advancement of the organization. This is a full-time salaried position with a flexible schedule in order to fulfill the job duties.

Responsibilities by Role

1. Member of the Executive Leadership Team

a. Work with the executive leadership of the organization to create and maintain an engaging and respectful culture focused on resolving and preventing homelessness
b. Analyze gift reports and produce historical trend data to inform future strategy
c. Participate in organizational budgeting and financial management processes to ensure adequate resources are dedicated to program projects
d. Maintain and grow the income of Willis Dady through increased fundraising and new revenue streams
e. Engage with staff, Board, clients, donors, and community members in order to meet annual development goals
f. Work with leadership to build a community narrative of opportunity and hope for people struggling with homelessness
g. Adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathy and perseverance; reflect optimism and a positive attitude; and convey sensitivity to donors’ needs
h. Represent Willis Dady with internal and external groups

2. Development Team Leader

a. Lead the creation and implementation of a comprehensive resource development strategic annual plan including, but not limited to communications, marketing, events, annual giving, foundation and corporate grants, and major donor gifts
i. Create and report on annual plan to Executive Director and Board of Directors
ii. Develop, implement, and manage a detailed grants calendar and ensure applications and reports are submitted in a timely and complete manner
iii. Implement and support donor cultivation and stewardship events
b. Supervise and lead the development team to achieve agency financial goals; the team may include a grant writer, major gift officer, and AmeriCorps outreach coordinator

depending on agency needs
c. Support and communicate with donors through day-to-day interactions and outreach
d. Define expectations and desired outcomes for the development team and create a
motivated, high-performance team
e. Manage a small portfolio of relationships with targeted donors
f. Oversee the management of the donor database utilizing agency staff and volunteers
g. Provide guidance on best practices, emerging trends and opportunities in development

3. Willis Dady Staff Member

a. Attend staff meetings and agency events as required
b. Complete required trainings and adhere to all guidelines, policies, and procedures
c. Maintain ethical client relationships and confidentiality in accordance with policies
d. Step in to assist with services at the Willis Dady shelter if needed (i.e. in a short-term
emergency or temporary shortage)
e. Undertake special projects as assigned
f. Support agency volunteers and manage project specific volunteers as appropriate
g. Other duties as assigned
Requirements

The Development Director must be self-driven, independent, compassionate, and highly committed to the mission and vision of the agency. The Director must consistently demonstrate initiative and must take responsibility for making progress. Excellent communication, organization, interpersonal skills and time management skills are required.

Required skills and Experience:
-Bachelor’s Degree with four years of related experience, or six years of experience in a lead fundraising and/or marketing role
-Four years’ experience in development in the non-profit sector including substantial
experience with individual donor cultivation, marketing, and grant writing
-Strong written communication skills with the ability to appeal to many audiences through writing including writing for mass publication, grants, and donor letters
-Proficient in computer skills such as typing, Word, Excel, etc.
-Ability to travel throughout Linn County, a valid driver’s license, and access to a reliable vehicle (work related travel expenses will be reimbursed by Willis Dady)
-Ability to work well with others, especially the Director, the Board, donors, and staff
-Flexibility in scheduling in order to meet donors and the demands of the position
-Applicable skills in strategic planning, budgeting, and team supervision
-Track record of successful fundraising experience that includes major gift acquisition

Compensation:
The Development Director salary will be between $47,000 and $52,000 dependent upon
qualifications. Willis Dady full-time employees are eligible for agency benefits including health insurance and an IRA match.
