Brescia University College campus is situated on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Haundenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak and Chonnonton Nations. Development and Communications Officer

 (Permanent Full Time Position)
Salary Grade 7 – $32.66 per hour

 

The mission of Advancement and Alumnae Relations at Brescia University College is to inspire and cultivate meaningful engagement and philanthropic support to help advance Brescia University College’s excellence in education, research, innovation and community commitment. Brescia University College is currently in year four of a historical five-year $10 million LEAD WITH US Campaign. We are currently seeking a Development and Communications Officer to support fundraising and communications for the LEAD WITH US Campaign in the Office of Advancement and Alumnae Relations.

In collaboration with Brescia’s Communications and External Relations team, the incumbent will be responsible for developing and writing professional campaign and donor related communication materials for the LEAD WITH US Campaign. As an integral part of the Advancement team and Campaign, you will provide communications strategies, advise on fundraising communications best practices and create and execute compelling campaigns.

In this role, you will:

  • Work with Brescia’s Communications, Marketing & External Relations Office to ensure alignment with the University’s mission and brand with donor activities
  • Develop and execute fundraising communications strategies that reach the hearts and minds of our donors and community and opens doors for Advancement and Alumnae Relations
  • Manage Advancement webpages, digital communications and social media campaign strategy and content development
  • Write and edit compelling fundraising communications content to support the LEAD WITH US campaign, Advancement projects and Alumnae Relations Communications
  • Oversee projects, such as: LEAD WITH US Campaign materials, major gift proposals, internal and external campaigns and promotions (print & digital), stewardship reports, recognition materials, annual giving and planned giving communications and Alumnae Relations communications
  • Preparespeeches, identify compelling stories for videos and press releases, event coordination and photography

Requirements for the role:

  • Demonstrated skills in persuasive writing, storytelling and editing for both print and digital mediums, across multiple channels
  • Research, write and edit all fundraising content including but not limited to funding proposals, compelling cases for support, monthly electronic newsletters, stewardship and planned giving materials
  • Write donor event speeches, video scripts, direct mail appeals, donor gift media release drafts, and any other necessary communication piece to bolster the fundraising efforts in Advancement and Alumnae Relations and Brescia University College
  • Understanding digital communications strategies, best practices and emerging trends
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading abilities, with an excellent command of the English language
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into relevant and relatable communications
  • Robust understanding/experience with social media platforms, web copy writing and editing skills
  • Computer skills with the ability to learn and use relevant software (web-based content management systems (such as WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite/InDesign), that achieves required outcomes and is in line with best practices
  • Desktop publishing, basic design skills (ex. Page layout etc.)
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ideal candidate will have post-secondary degree or equivalent in Communications, Journalism or a relevant field of study
  • One to two years’ related experience in communications and or fundraising with an emphasis on donor-centric communications and writing
