Job Description

The Development Coach, Beach National Teams (BNT) reports to the Director, BNT and is responsible for supporting the late-stage athletic development of post-collegiate and specific “talent transfer” athletes through coaching support and targeted programming.  The position will work closely with other USAV/USOPC Performance Team members to accelerate the beach volleyball development of athletes toward podium level performances against top international teams.

Cross departmental support is a general expectation of all USAV employees. Additional hours may be required to include nights, weekends and holidays. The position is located in Torrance, California.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities include but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Design, implement and oversee transition and development programs for high potential, post-collegiate and talent transfer athletes (athletes moving from indoor or other sports to beach).
  • Instill a vision and understanding of what it takes to represent your country on the world stage for post-collegiate and talent transfer athletes.
  • Provide high quality coaching support for post-collegiate and talent transfer athletes.
  • Design and implement holistic, “college to pro” transition programs to improve athlete understanding of and adaptability to the demands of elite, international volleyball.
  • Ensure developmental and talent transfer athletes are tracking against Key Performance Indicators and prepare performance reports.
  • Develop and maintain a late stage development athlete database.
  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative ways to accelerate beach volleyball development and/or transfer of high potential indoor (or other sport) athletes.
  • Liaise with the NTDP scouting network and collegiate coaches on athlete identification.
  • Support the Beach Collegiate National Team’s athlete selection and training ensuring alignment with BNT standards/best practices.
  • Provide coaching support at select domestic and international competitions.
  • Support USAV’s National Team Development Program (NTDP) Academy and Coach Education programs via content creation, presentations, and programming that meets BNT standards/best practices.
  • Support the BNT with coaching identification and development, beach volleyball studies, and design and implementation of effective training strategies.
  • Support BNT Performance Staff in fostering a growth mindset and Team USA culture.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in physical education, related degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of elite level sport experience as a coach in beach or indoor volleyball.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Ability to lead team(s) and achieve organizational results.
  • Self-starter, takes initiative to solve problems.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a USAV background screening (prior to hire date).
  • Must successfully complete SafeSport training within two weeks of hire date and remain current.

Salary:  $75,000
