Position Title: Development Associate, Prospect Management and Research

Hiring Manager: Manager of Prospect Research

Location: Boston, MA or Remote

 

Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Prospect Research, the Development Associate is responsible for identifying, researching, recommending, and analyzing prospects for major and principal gift cultivation and solicitation. The Development Associate conducts both high-level and in-depth research on individuals, corporations, and foundations to find those whose goals and interests best align with a philanthropic investment in Partners In Health.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts detailed research using public, proprietary, purchased, or leased databases, newspapers, published materials and other resources to identify potential donors and funding sources.
  • Analyzes and interprets biographic, business and financial information on individuals and/or corporations and foundations based on the PIH’s fundraising strategies and objectives.
  • Collects, synthesizes, analyzes, and interprets biographical and financial data to produce briefings and reports that inform decision-making; these reports include calculated wealth estimates and capacity ratings that indicate the ability and propensity of individuals, corporations, and foundations to make philanthropic contributions to and serve in volunteer capacities for PIH.
  • Participate in prospect review meetings and provide recommendations for portfolio assignments
  • Uses prospecting tools such as data screening and modeling scores to provide analyses of targeted groups and overall prospect pools.
  • Executes comprehensive prospect acquisition strategies to identify potential new donors to support ongoing fundraising efforts.
  • Develops and maintains ongoing, collaborative relationships with development staff including managing special projects for fundraising teams such as the board engagement team and private sector partnerships team.
  • Coordinates the risk assessment research and activities for the Gift Acceptance Committee. Regularly reviews and updates the organization’s Gift Acceptance Policy.
  • Maintains constituent data in the Raiser’s Edge database for use by all development staff and assists with usage as needed.
  • Maintains and upholds the professional and ethical standards set by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
  • Assists with light administrative support for the PMR team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1 to 3 years of direct fundraising/development experience preferred. Candidates with 3 or more years of related professional experience will also be considered.
  • Ability to deal with confidential information in a sensitive manner.
  • Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to locate and interpret biographic and financial information from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, handle several projects simultaneously and re-prioritize as needed as well as strong experience with computers, online databases, and Internet searching.
  • Understanding of information management in a database structure, particularly the ability to manipulate and retrieve data.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to synthesize high volumes of data and write concisely. Ability to work well with diverse groups.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and country.
  • Interest in social justice strongly desirable.
