DE&S are looking for a talented Vehicle In-Service Support Engineer to join their team. This exciting opportunity offers the chance to work in the Vehicle Support Team (VST), supporting the transition into service of AJAX, one of the UK’s leading armoured fighting vehicles. The team must ensure AJAX is fit for purpose and can be supported and used safely at the extremes of its capability in an ever-hostile environment.

As part of this vital role, you will be expected to lead from the forefront, supporting the transition from Vehicle Demonstration & Manufacture, to VST. You will ensure equipment is fit for purpose, supportable, and be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) within VST for AJAX advising and reviewing on technical issues, supportability and safety.

Responsibilities

As our Vehicle In-Service Support Engineer, you will need a good all rounded engineering background with significant experience in managing safety, safety artefacts, technical publications and In-service Support tools (e.g. JAMES). You will be expected to lead and advise on technical problem solving, coupled with appropriate management planning abilities to resolve complex engineering problems. You will need to lead and inspire a team in the definition of technical requirements, manage solution development and ensure compliance with the customers’ requirements. The assignments are an integral interface to our supply base ensuring technical solutions meet the needs and requirements of the armed forces.

Using your engineering proficiency, you will lead delivery of engineering expertise. You may be required to provide detailed systems engineering support or manage technical risk. Elements of the assignment could see you leading system engineering, evaluation, performance verification and demonstrations related to your technical area; keeping abreast of developments and developing options, and opportunities for application within the business. The role may encompass planning, performance reporting, managing the development of business processes and the development of our people.

You will be responsible to use and grow your skills and subject matter knowledge to help DE&S ensure that the Armed Forces are capable of operating in the most demanding environments. Adopting to new ways of working, demonstrating diverse and flexible approaches to challenges, working in collaborative situations and maintaining a right first-time approach to solution implementation.

What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• Hold a minimum Level 4 qualification (e.g. HNC) in a relevant Engineering or Science subject or be able to demonstrate the equivalent work experience.
• Have demonstrable experience of developing and maintaining Safety Cases and Hazard Logs, production of Safety Case Reports and Assessments.
• Significant experience working in an In-Service Support role.
• Demonstrable experience of strong communication and stakeholder management skills across multiple levels.

• Experience working with Tracked Vehicles
• Experience with IETPs (Electronic Technical Publications)
• Experience with JAMES Asset Management System
