Job description

To lead the delivery of key activities contributing to operational Supply Chain Management (SCM) across Inventory Management, Supplier Management, Demand Management and Performance Management activities. Where required, to provide advice, guidance and support to team Leaders on the delivery of SCM activity within their areas and lead a team on major SCM-related projects.

We have three different vacancies across the below.

Remotely Piloted Air Systems (RPAS) Delivery team;

– This role is the Supply Chain Management lead across the entire RPAS portfolio. The post will support all of the in-service capabilities (Watchkeeper, Desert Hawk 3, Raggle and Reaper) and also influence the supply support development for all future capabilities (Protector, FTUAS and Tiquila). The RPAS team face all 4 front line commands and each has differing support and supply chain arrangements adding complexity to this role. Managing a team of supply chain managers to ensure effective supply chain management and reporting to senior levels this is a high profile post in a team delivering exciting, cutting edge technology in a rapid growth area.

Ships OC Domain Support Team – Assistant Head Governance and Assurance;

– Working to the Domain Support Lead and closely with the intelligent logistics domain function management team, the post holder will lead on supply chain and materiel and financial accounting governance and assurance to drive continuous improvement. The post holder will provide mentoring, training and advice to less experienced colleagues, using the health of inventory and material accounting (HIMA) dashboard and other tools to identify process gaps and work with colleagues across the domain to address them. As a senior and integral member of a small team, the post holder will also lead on related aspects of support transformation liaising with military customers and stakeholders across DE&S and the SDA.

Air Domain, Air Commodities Team Supply Chain Lead;

– Working directly to the Air Commodities Team Leader the postion will have full accountability for over 50 Supply Chain Management staff. Air Commodities provides equipment to support nearly all in service aircraft and answers to multiple Customers. The successful candidate will be accountable for ensuring the timely delivery of equipment to all Front Line Commands across the full range of 45,000 different equipment types the team manages. This role will involve regular interface with Industry, MOD Customers and internal DE&S stakeholders. The post is also responsible for monitoring and measuring performance and ensuring adherence to all policy and processes related to managing an effective supply chain.

Responsibilities

In this role you will strategically support delivery of the service in accordance with customer agreements by using demand, supply and project management skills and techniques. You will engage stakeholders and create consensual solutions to drive and deliver outcomes in a way that identifies risks and recommend clear, viable mitigating actions. Your approach will be to listen, understand and to respect the value of different views, ideas and ways of working to make ongoing improvements to delivery while bringing your stakeholders on the journey with you.

To succeed, you will need to be highly proactive with a continuous improvement mindset. Strategically leading teams, you will encourage a culture of imaginative thinking, learning from experience and expanding mindsets to challenge the status quo to continually drive for improved quality.

Given the dynamic environment, no two days will be quite the same; one may find you conducting a rolling, regular review of the requirements you look after with your customer and the front-line commands to ensure the successful ongoing improvements. Another may involve meeting with your suppliers regarding specific issues and developing bespoke but scalable solutions that minimise service or capability downtime and optimise costs associated with the support.

You will translate aims into clear manageable plans and determine resource requirements to support implementation, facilitating flexible use of resources across the organisation through innovative structuring of resources within your own area. Regularly interpret management information to provide valuable business insights and work alongside senior colleagues to help share strategy and policy within your role area.

In cases where the deliverable or platform is not being delivered to the required quality, cost or timescales you will need to identify the issues and take appropriate action. This will require you having great customer and supplier management skills along with the ability to lead teams made up of many disciplines, making sure everyone is working and communicating with each other to deliver your clear plan of action.

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Experience of managing supply chains of a high-value or critical asset management nature.
• Strong leadership and people management skills including change management and development.
• Experience of implementing effective governance and assurance to meet the implementation and application of supply chain management policy and processes.
• A strong background in asset accounting and inventory optimisation activities.
• Comprehensive knowledge of data management and analysis skills to diagnose, improve and drive supplier performance, compliance and demand planning.
• Experience of leading the identification and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
• You will possess a degree in supply chain, logistics or a comparable related discipline, or alternatively be a subject-matter expert within a logistics field.

It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

• Military/Defence/Industry Aviation Logistics experience at a senior level.
• Experience of managing high value/complex contracted supply chain partnerships.

About your team

The Integrated Logistics (iLog) Function is the integrating Function for Support within DE&S, responsible for the development, management and delivery of in-service support for our front-line command customers. The iLog Function consists of around 2,900 personnel, both civil servants and military, and with a wide range of disciplines ranging from operations management and supply chain management, technical through-life support and logistics delivery, to modelling and analysis and internal continuous improvement consultancy services.
