Are you interested in working on some of the leading Defence Technical Projects and Programmes supporting our armed forces in current and future operations?

DE&S have an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to join their Corporate Team. This team specialises in technology and innovative solutions to deliver a military capability. The tools of their trade are analysis, experimentation and demonstration. They have a unique position within DE&S which allows them to maintain visibility across pan-domain organisations. With a diverse set of specialist skills within the team, they have built strong collaborative networks within the MoD and across the supply chain enabling them to be valued as specialists and experts providing a unique service to DE&S and the wider MoD.

The Corporate team make sure their projects provide the right deliverables and add real value to the customer. They aim to deliver innovative cross-cutting solutions that save their customers money and deliver enhanced capabilities. They help shape their customers’ requirements so they address the right problem from the outset and help them interpret the results at the end.

If successful in this position, you will be working in the Standardization Management Team, delivering a through life process that enables the drafting, development, and maintenance of standards and that promotes the intelligent selection and implementation of standards, policy, processes and tools, to reduce potential safety, technical and commercial risk in their equipment programmes. In this role you will be expected to advise on technical problem solving, often coupled with appropriate management planning abilities to resolve complex engineering problems. You will need to define technical requirements, manage solution development and ensure compliance with the customers’ requirements.

Responsibilities

As a Standardisation Engineer, you will use your engineering skills as a member of a team of professionals who are immensely proud to deliver and support some of the UK’s largest, technically challenging and most important engineering projects.

You will support and lead on technical problem solving, coupled with appropriate management planning to resolve complex engineering problems. You will typically support the definition of technical requirements, manage solution development and ensure compliance with customers’ requirements. You will use and grow your skills and subject matter knowledge to help DE&S ensure that the armed forces can operate in the most demanding environments. At this level, your role may also encompass elements of planning, performance reporting, and the development of its people.

Duties may also include:

• Managing engineering technical requirements.
• Responsible for the development and maintenance of system requirements including in-service support.
• Provide specialist advice on the application of safety and environmental management systems.
• Determine quality management and assurance approaches and ensure technical risks are understood and managed.
• Participate in identification, selection, evaluation, performance verification and demonstrations within their technical area.
• Produce and contribute to Engineering Management Plans.

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent working experience.
• Registration with a relevant Professional Engineering / Science Institute or equivalent body or has demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience and is willing to work towards registration.
• Evidence of stakeholder management and communication skills, able to interface with industry and help DE&S and industry understand technical risks.
• Experience in Office 365.
