Job description

DE&S, Salvage and Marine Operations, is the lead across the MoD for the provision of marine salvage and emergency response. Our team of specialists including Master Mariners, Marine Engineers, Naval Architects, Environmental Scientists, ROV Pilots and Divers provide a centre of expertise for subsea activities and marine operations .Our operations are varied and include: salvage assistance to damaged surface vessels, location of aircraft on the sea-bottom, survey of WWII wrecks, towage of warships and submarines, emergency response preparedness exercises and underwater engineering support to rectify defects on Navy platforms at home and overseas. We are a flexible, highly trained and multi-skilled team who are ready to respond at short notice worldwide.

The role is currently located at MoD Abbey wood but there is a chance it may relocate elsewhere within Bristol area within the next few months. Please note you will be required to travel regularly to other MoD Locations within the UK.

Responsibilities

This team are looking for an experienced Logistic Support Officer. As LSO you will be responsible for the store’s accounts and inventory, facilities management of a maintenance workshop and warehouse, along with conducting Low Value Purchases. You will be a key enabler for the deployment of personnel and equipment in direct support of operations. You will be responsible for timely Outward and Return Logistics of equipment including dangerous goods by land, sea and air using MOD and Commercial contracts as well as assisting colleagues plan and manage platform/equipment spares availability and reliability.

The role requires the post to deal with a wide range of departments both within the MoD and Industry. You may be required to perform these duties at reach on short notice in direct support of operations as a member of the deployed team. This would require the individual to have a high level of physical fitness, as the role shall involve physical tasks during operations and manual handling within the warehouse. You shall be a full member of the team and trained in all aspects of operational requirements and duties.

As the building controller you will be responsible for ensuring essential maintenance to the facilities appearance and functionality is undertaken along with any emergency repairs necessary to keep the premises compliant with legal requirements.

The Role requires the occasional use of vehicles to moves stores & equipment between various UK sites. The successful candidate therefore will be required to have a minimum cat B driving licence.

You will be required to undertake and maintain a 2 yearly seafarers medical, ENG1, to be achieved within 12 months of appointment. You will be required to enlist as a Royal Navy Sponsored Reserve.

Please note due to the security requirements, this post is open to SOLE UK Nationals only. The post will require you to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance within 6 months of appointment.

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Experience of working in a delivery environment in a support role
• Experience of managing and meeting deadlines
• Experience in Communications with Internal and external Stakeholders
• Ability to identify risks and issues
• Educated to GCSE or equivalent experience
• Full UK driving licence

It would benefit your application should be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

• Familiarity of MOD Stores Systems, particularly MJDI
• Experience in Transport Management
• Dangerous Goods Consignor qualified for ROAD, SEA and AIR

The Integrated Logistics (iLog) Function is the integrating Function for Support within DE&S, responsible for the development, management and delivery of in-service support for our front-line command customers. The iLog Function consists of around 2,900 personnel, both civil servants and military, and with a wide range of disciplines ranging from operations management and supply chain management, technical through-life support and logistics delivery, to modelling and analysis.
