Job description

Exciting opportunities have arisen to become part of the Acquisition Safety and Environmental Protection (ASEP) discipline within DE&S as a Safety and Environmental Practitioner within the Land Domain. The Land Domain is responsible for providing equipment, systems and services to the UK Armed Forces, which are fit for purpose and can be used safely at the extremes of their capability in an ever-hostile environment.

The available roles sit within the Logistics Delivery Operating Centre which is responsible for commissioning and managing a range of logistics services, including the provision of equipment an commodities, to support UK Defence activity across the globe.

These vital roles will require you to be experienced in Safety and Environmental Management within Defence, ideally with an engineering or technical background. The ability to communicate effectively is essential, in order to interact with other DE&S and MoD organisations, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Front Line Commands and Industry, throughout the acquisition cycle.

Responsibilities

As our Safety and Environmental Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing advice and guidance, supporting the delivery of Safety and environmental requirements across the business and reporting on performance. You will be required to engage constructively with Portfolios / Delivery Teams, other SME’s, Front Line Commands, external suppliers and Regulators at all stages in the acquisition cycle.

As a Safety and Environmental Practitioner, you will also:

• Continually develop your working knowledge of DE&S Safety policy and process (through Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management Systems ASEMS) and the DSA regulatory framework.
• Be responsible for the maintenance, review and uplift of key safety artefacts including Safety and Environmental Management Systems, Plans and Case Reports.
• Attend and act as our representative at Safety and Environmental Committees, providing oversight of Delivery Team Safety & Environmental management.
• Manage the output from these Safety & Environmental Committees, ensuring action where identified is taken to its conclusion..
• Use your strong communication and stakeholder management skills to regularly engage with our Delivery Teams, Front Line Customers and external suppliers, ensuring Safety & Environmental requirements are properly addressed.
• Maintain Management Information systems in order to report Safety & Environmental performance to senior management and Boards.

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Hold a minimum Level 4 qualification (e.g. HNC) in a relevant Engineering or Science subject or be able to demonstrate the equivalent work experience.
• Have demonstrable experience in the Defence Industry and working knowledge of the MOD’s Safety Case approach.
• Experience of implementing, developing and maintaining Safety and Environmental Management Systems in compliance with appropriate UK/EU legislation and regulations.
• Demonstrable experience of Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across multiple levels.
• Demonstrable experience working to ISO Standards 19001, 14001, 18001 or 45001 or the equivalent Defence Standards

It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

• Experience in use of Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management Systems and developing Safety and Environmental Case Reports (SECR).
