We have a fantastic opportunity to work as a Principal Estimator as part of the Wildcat Delivery Team.

The Wildcat Delivery Team who are part of the Helicopters Operating Centre based at the Leonardo Helicopter site in Yeovil, have an exciting opportunity for a Project Controls Cost Estimator to join their team in keeping the Royal Navy and Army Wildcat Helicopters flying; supporting the various Order Book Items – In Service Support, Capability Insertion, Pricing Period 3, HUMS, FASGW sections with the equipment they need to achieve their operations. The Wildcat Team are responsible for the delivery of complex work packages cutting across the delivery space and you’ll be responsible for cost estimating a range of requirements in support of this platform.

As a Principal Estimator, you will be responsible for contributing to or managing delivery of cost estimates and ensuring all appropriate cost scope is captured, represented, controlled and maintained; you will work with suppliers and stakeholders to integrate relevant information such as schedules and risks; you will be responsible for providing estimating guidance to delivery teams and ensuring cost estimate outputs are interpreted correctly and communicated with key stakeholders to drive investment decisions.

Responsibilities

You will:

– Have experience of estimating in a project-delivery environment.
– Have knowledge of wider Project Controls.
– Have demonstrable experience of managing Estimating or Project Controls teams.
– Be confident in working with suppliers and stakeholders
– Be able to simplify and articulate complex estimate data to a range of stakeholders.

In person, you will possess good interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills with experience of working collaboratively with teams, across functions and with all levels of the delivery teams.

These posts represent a real opportunity to be involved with the continual development of best practice within DE&S and SDA Project Controls environment.

These roles would suit Estimators with a proven track record either in supplier, consultant or client-side roles; ideally with a background in delivery projects through the stages of design, procurement, manufacture, and in-service.

A background in the defence sector is not a prerequisite as we welcome applicants from a broad spectrum of industries and sectors.

To be considered you will possess the following:

– Significant experience of cost estimating in a project and programme environment
– Significant experience in Excel spreadsheet and risk analysis software
– Strong data analysis skill set
– Understanding of Cost Control / Planning & Scheduling and the integration with estimating
– Understanding of the principles and methods of Project Risk Management
– Understanding of a Basis of Estimate (BoE) and Quality Assurance (QA) processes
– Understanding of the principles of Earned Value Management (APM EVM)
– Proven team management and development skills

It is desirable that you have attained full membership of APM (or equivalent) and/or ICEAA or ACostE (or equivalent) to underpin your Estimating experience.

Due to security requirements you will be required to obtain security clearance (SC).
