The dental assistant works for the dental program supporting the program coordinator, dentists, and dental faculty. The dental assistant provides chair side assistance (four handed dental assisting) to supervising dentists, monitors students during the clinical phase of training, maintains clinic equipment and supplies, and assists students so they can perform advanced dental assisting support in a dental clinic.


• Provide dental program clinic support; demonstrate and provide dental assisting support and model proper dental assistant techniques and performance

• Perform expanded dental assisting duties, including four handed dental assisting

• Provide proper dental care and service to patient

• Provide set-up and chair side assistance, dispense equipment and supplies to students, and other dental assisting support to dentists in the clinic

• Provide, demonstrate, and ensure proper sterilization of dental equipment and usage of other dental equipment

• Maintain program equipment and supplies in proper condition; inspect clinic equipment; make appropriate adjustments and perform basic maintenance

• Demonstrate safe dental assisting practices; assist students to adapt dental assisting procedures to individual patient needs; monitor students to ensure compliance

• Maintain currency in dental assisting practices by taking part in workshops, training activities, and other professional development

• Work effectively and cooperatively with faculty, clinic staff, students, and patients

• Ensure areas of responsibility operate within applicable laws, governing agencies, and the policies and procedures of the college

• Assist with monitoring the flow of patients to ensure quality patient care and efficient clinic operations; ensure the comfort and safety of all patients in the clinic

• Take and record vital signs; chart patient information; maintain all necessary records

• Identify situations involving patients, students, and dental staff that need resolution and refer to an appropriate source

• Assume and effectively discharge other duties as assigned


• High school graduate or equivalent

• Registered Dental Assistant in the state of Washington

• Minimum one year chair side experience in expanded functions dental assisting procedures

• Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) and dental assisting experience strongly preferred

• Proof of CPR/BLS Certification

• Clinic experience in a large clinic environment preferred
