Full-Time Dean of Business and Health Sciences (BHS)

Job Description

Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month, exempt Dean of Business and Health Sciences (BHS) position in the Office of Instruction.  This administrative position reports to the Vice President of Instruction (VPI) who provides leadership, management, planning and advocacy for faculty programs within the unit and coordinates career and vocational programs.

The Business and Health Sciences unit comprises of Business, Bachelor of Applied Science in Business Management, Bachelor of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene, Nursing, Medical Assisting, Health Information Management, Phlebotomy, Pharmacy Technician, and Health and Physical Education. The BHS unit has a focus of active enrollment and programmatic growth. The Unit Dean will lead this growth effort while ensuring that the excellence of current programs is maintained. The assignment of specific divisions and instructional departments are subject to change.

Position Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership:

  • Advocate for and represent the BHS unit. Work collaboratively with BHS division chairs, department chairs, other instructional unit deans and associate deans, faculty, and staff.
  • Establish and develop an effective communication process within and among units.
  • Provide leadership in development of effective teaching and learning strategies and outcome assessment tools; conduct program review processes.
  • Represent the unit in articulation and partnership activities with high schools, community colleges, four-year institutions, and business and industry.
  • Actively support activities that promote diversity.
  • Provide support , supervision, and assurance that third-party accreditation needs/reports are complete and meet accreditation requirements for Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Medical Assisting, Health Information Management, and Pharmacy Technician.
  • Provide support and supervision for Accounting, Economics, Management , EMT, and Phlebotomy.
  • Represent leadership at Board of Trustees meetings.
  • Work with health care community partners to establish and maintain relationships with Clark College programs.
  • Work with department chairs on online program modalities.

Management:

  • Oversee class schedule and catalog preparation within unit.
  • Develop and manage budget allocations.
  • Monitor student advising processes, including supervision of advising staff and faculty within unit and working collaboratively with professional student advisors.
  • Assume primary responsibility for recruitment, screening, orientation, and professional development of full and part-time faculty.
  • Supervise faculty and staff within unit to include approving CTE faculty members’ vocational certification submissions.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with colleges and universities that provide resources for partnerships, collaboration, and opportunities for increasing faculty diversity.
  • Oversee tenure review processes for probationary faculty and evaluation processes for full- and part-time faculty. Serve as administrative member on tenure committees in unit.
  • Serve as appeal person for student complaints.
  • Oversee facility and equipment allocation and use within unit.
  • Represent college on advisory committees in unit: Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Business, BASAM, Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy, EMT. Represent Clark College on the State Board Deans and Directors of Allied Health Programs.
  • Collaborate with Associate Dean of BEECH regarding high school articulations and IBEST for Business and Health Care programs.
  • Ensure Program Maps are up to date within the BHS unit.
  • Work in collaboration with the foundation to ensure educational opportunities are accessible to all who seek them at Clark College.

Planning:

  • Establish and maintain identified FTE targets, effectively allocating personnel and budget resources.
  • Coordinate and foster collaborative planning and goal setting for programs within unit.

Common Duties Established by the College:

  • Serve as chair or member of designated College committees, councils, and teams.
  • Promote diversity, inclusion, equity, and antiracism in processes including hiring, orienting, training, scheduling, and evaluating faculty and staff. Ensures compliance with state regulations, labor agreements, college policies and procedures, and accreditation rules and regulations.
  • Provide leadership in accordance with the Mission and Vision established by the College, furthering Core Themes and College Objectives. Prepare reports and analytical materials to illustrate objectives, activities, and accomplishments of areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure areas of responsibility operate effectively within the policies and procedures for operating unit(s).
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate employees in accordance with negotiated agreements, applicable state and federal laws, and College policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for operating unit(s).
  • Exercise effective stewardship over college resources.
  • Create a safe, bias-free working environment, which engenders respect for differences.
  • Work to achieve the core theme of fostering a diverse college community as established by the College.
  • Engage in and promote shared governance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in an area related to assignment.
  • Three (3) years of full-time leadership experience in academic administration or instruction reasonably related to the administrative assignment.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students and employees.
  • Culturally responsive, inclusive, and anti-racist practice in instruction.
  • Desirable: Community college faculty experience.
  • Vaccination requirement: Per Washington State Proclamation 22-13.1: college employees must be fully vaccinated. Your COVID-19 vaccine attestation status must be received by the Human Resources office prior to the commencement of work. Supplemental Information

SALARY: $105,266 – $121,887 annually (commensurate with qualifications and experience).
Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases.
