The Role

This position is embedded at, and partners with, O’Connell High School (OC) to provide career exploration, career readiness and work-based learning activities that support students’ current and future educational and employment success. As part of the OC community, this program collaborates deeply with the school administration, college and career team, teachers and staff to create dynamic program activities that are responsive to students’ needs.

 Scope

Client Support

  • Through one-on-one and group coaching, support program participants in:
    • Exploring jobs/careers of interest and the associated career pathway training and internship programs
    • Preparing  for, and obtaining, competitive employment, entry into career pathway training and internship programs
    • Successful completion of career pathway training and internship programs and successful retention of competitive employment
    • Connecting to programs with caring and appropriate adults to support their continued transition
  • Collaborate with employers and career pathway training/ internship programs to support the above outcomes for program participants
  • Under the supervision of the Senior Coordinator or Program Manager, collaborate with school-site administration, teachers, and staff to provide a high-quality experience for students both on-site and off
  • Identify participant needs and work with the school and program staff to connect the participant to resources

Program Support

  • As appropriate, participate in planning for, coordinate additional program activities, and support teammates
  • Identify and provide feedback on ways to increase student support, successful transition, and overall program outcomes
  • Support the development of collaborative vision with school site while maintaining alignment to agency, department, and program goals
  • Support with Soft Skills, and Success & Retention and other skill development trainings for students
  • Support with student recruitment and onboarding for program activities

School Partner Support

  • Actively engage in fostering a positive community at OC including
    • Timely and appropriate communication with administration, college and career team, teachers and staff
    • Participation in school-site meetings and activities (e.g. staff meetings, back to schools nights, etc.), as appropriate

 Qualifications

  • Excellent youth engagement and relationship management skills with school and employer/training partners
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Able to utilize an intersectional racial equity lens while working in a multi-cultural environment with diverse staff, partners, and clientele
  • Strong organizational skills, able to manage priorities, meet deliverables and deadlines
  • Able to work independently, as part of a team, and flexible to meet evolving needs of participants, partners, and program
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Strong computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Drive
  • Experience supporting youth in learning about jobs/careers and obtaining competitive employment or entry into career training programs
  • Experience working with youth and maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Experience facilitating engaging youth workshops both in-person and remotely
  • Ability to pass DOJ and FBI background checks in accordance with Education Code Section 45125.1
  • Ability to pass a Tuberculosis Risk Assessment before working in-person with youth participants and every 4 years thereafter in accordance with California Education Code sections 4906 and 87408.6 and Health and Safety Code sections 1597.055 and 121525-121555
  • Has received a full series of vaccination for Covid-19 or, for those who cannot receive the COVID-19 vaccine due to a disability or sincerely held religious belief, are willing and able to engage in weekly COVID-19 testing in accordance with SFUSD policy for Community Based Organizations working with students at school sites
