YOUR OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a self-motivated, experienced communicator to fill the role of Corporate Relations Specialist and negotiate high-impact animal welfare policies with the country’s largest food companies. Your position plays an integral role in our organizational strategy to engage with corporations and advance protections for animals in the food supply chain. We want you because you’re motivated to make a difference in the lives of animals and have the professional communication skills to motivate corporate executives to do the same.  You are ideal for this position because you can confidently and clearly deliver a message in a high-stakes corporate environment and thrive in a position that requires autonomy, creativity, and drive. This position will report directly to the Corporate Relations Manager.

This is a full-time, remote position. This position requires frequent travel,  equivalent to approximately 20 trips per year. Amidst COVID-19, we are meeting with companies digitally and are assessing travel plans on a monthly basis. We are only able to consider applicants who reside in the United States and possess United States work authorization.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

As Corporate Relations, your primary objective is to get issues of animal welfare in front of key decision makers at food companies:

  • Write professional emails and other outreach materials.
  • Plan and maintain your strategic direction and schedule of corporate outreach that you deploy.

When your research and outreach are executed successfully, you will have the opportunity to engage directly with decision makers on animal welfare reforms:

  • Confidently and clearly communicate our proposed animal welfare measures to decision makers and maintain the relationships to further advance protections for farm animals, either via email, phone, or in-person meetings.
  • Engage in high-pressure negotiations with executives with the primary objective of food companies committing to animal welfare policies such as the Better Chicken Commitment

Outside of your outreach and negotiation responsibilities, this role requires you to:

  • Travel domestically to meet with companies, colleagues, and partner organizations.
  • Understand the broader industry landscape on animal welfare issues as well as the nuances of the individual animal welfare policies we are requesting of companies.
  • Work cohesively and collaboratively with team members intra- and inter-departmentally to coordinate on campaign targets and actions.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Corporate Relations Manager

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Able to think, act, and communicate fast on your feet. Ability to use discretion and independent judgment and/or action in evaluating high-stakes situations and making decisions.
  • Self-motivation: this is a highly independent and autonomous position and candidates should have experience in taking initiative in pursuing goals, setting their own schedule given only general directives, and taking leaps to advance their work with minimal oversight.
  • Strong written and verbal communication: able to present our message professionally in both written and oral formats, e.g. emails, public presentations, and high-pressure meetings with corporate executives. Candidates should have experience demonstrating these skills.
  • Comfort with high-pressure negotiations and the occasional conflict with adversarial food companies.
  • Ability/willingness to travel: this position requires the ability to travel extensively, approximately one to two weeks out of each month.
  • Experience using G-Suite or similar platforms, comfort with maintaining spreadsheets with varying data.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Candidates living within one hour of a major airport.
  • Candidates with experience in sales, marketing/communications, business, fundraising, or similar fields.
