Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers ten applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

LWTech serves the Eastside and is located within the city of Kirkland, which is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Washington. Kirkland is home to companies such as GoDaddy, Google, Astronics and EvergreenHealth, and the college is within minutes from Microsoft and Nintendo.


The Coordinator of Research & Grants supports the college in developing grant applications to a wide variety of funding sources, including local and federal funders. This position has substantial responsibility for pre-application coordination, assistance in negotiations, and post-award management. This position works as part of a team serving a diverse community of users. This is an exempt position that reports to the Director of Research and Grant Development.

Essential Functions:

• Oversee the preparation, development, submission, and follow-through of grant applications to local and federal funders.

• Identify funding sources needed to support program growth and enrollment in alignment with key college initiatives. Provide technical advice and interpretation of grant funding agencies’regulations to Executive Cabinet, principal investigators, administrators, and staff.

• In collaboration with other departments, identify and write goals and objectives; identify resources needed to meet goals and objectives, including staffing, supplies, and equipment; prepare project description, performance goals, and method for evaluation; prepare cost analysis and budget.

• Implement procedures and internal monitoring and reporting systems to assure effective grant program administration.

• Coordinate with impacted department staff and management, such as human resources,fiscal, administrative, program, payroll, and purchasing areas within a department. Schedule and conduct department meetings relating to grant applications, programs, and ongoing activities.

• Write reports and narratives for grant program evaluation reports.

• Manage grant draws and funds received from grants by tracking activities. Perform reconciliation of grant expenditures and revenues. Close out grants following federal, state and City guidelines.

• Represent the college at professional conferences, meetings, seminars, and workshops.

• Monitor private agency announcements and postings from to ensure information dissemination and funding opportunity review by the grants team on campus. Provide technical advice and interpretation of funding agencies’ regulations.

• Manage production and submission of proposals including writing, formatting, and compliance review.

• Aid the Research & Grants team in applying research/evaluation methods to support institutional effectiveness and accountability, marketing, retention, and strategic planning projects at the college.

• Run queries/generate reports pertaining to grant data in PeopleSoft.

• Assist supervisor and other college administrators as necessary; assume and effectively discharge other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in statistics, economics, English, communications, education, social science, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

• Ability to handle multiple tasks with a strong attention to detail; ability to prioritize time and duties efficiently.

• Excellent written and verbal and customer service skills; ability to work cooperatively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, students, external agencies, and the public; ability to use tact and discretion and maintain confidentiality of information.

• Excellent skills in ethics, integrity, tact and diplomacy, judgment, relationship building, research and analysis, project management, and problem-solving.

• Experience with data visualization software and/or data interpretation.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Salary is $5,833 per month. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position. Typically, work hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required. This position is eligible for remote/hybrid work subject to supervisor approval.
