Full-Time Contract Manager

HopSkipDrive – Posted by HopSkipDrive Remote

Job Description

Who we are

HopSkipDrive’s mission is to create opportunity for all through mobility. Our safe, innovative youth transportation solution is used by over 300 school districts, charter schools, government agencies and busy families to get kids where they need to go.

With nearly 500,000 yellow buses on the road every day and 3.5 billion miles driven a year, student transportation is the largest mass transit system in the US. And while districts spend $25 billion annually on transportation, only 30% of kids get to school everyday on a school bus. Add to the equation a crippling bus driver shortage and increasing needs for individualized transportation solutions, and it is clear the current system is expensive, inefficient and ripe for disruption.

We create personalized transportation solutions from one to many, and everything in between.

We’re a company with heart

Our partnerships with school districts, child welfare agencies and nonprofits ensure equitable educational access for our most vulnerable populations, including youth in foster care, youth experiencing homelessness, and youth with special needs.

We understand that the difference between struggle and success can sometimes be as simple as the ability to show up, which is why we’re on a mission to use innovative technology, coupled with operational expertise and new thinking to help kids reach their full potential by providing a safe, dependable way to get them where they are going.

We’re an awesome place to work

Our company culture has been well-recognized — HopSkipDrive has been named to Best Places to Work lists from Built in LA, Comparably, Inc. and the Los Angeles Business Journal. Comparably also named us to the Best Company for Professional Development, Best CEO and Best CEOs for Women lists.

We’re growing rapidly

Founded by three moms as a solution to their own transportation challenges, we now serve nine states and 16 markets across the country and continue to expand at a rapid pace, twice making the Inc. 5000 and Deloitte 500 Fast-Growing Technology lists. Backed by top-tier venture capital firms, HopSkipDrive has raised $70M in funding to date.

Who you are

You are looking for a challenging and rewarding experience. You are inspired by our vision and the opportunity to define a new category in an incredibly fast-growing market. You are excited to learn, grow and collaborate so we can achieve our mission of creating opportunity for all through mobility.

At HopSkipDrive, we know that challenges require different approaches, unique perspectives and new ways of thinking.  We are building a team of creative problem-solvers from many different backgrounds.

The Contract Manager (CM) position is responsible for management of all contractual documents, working in partnership with suppliers, internal business and legal departments to initiate the contract review process and escalate matters as necessary.  The CM acts as a first-line non-legal advisor for contracts related issues applying the organizations standard operating procedures (“SOP”) (e.g.,a “playbook”) and must apply critical thinking skills, work independently to resolve issues, and escalate matters in a timely manner.  Dat to day work for the CM requires non-legal consideration of diverse contractual issues as well as the ability to identify any potential risks which must be escalated to members of the HOpsSkipDrive team.  In addition to requiring knowledge and familiarity with contracting requirements, this role requires that you synthesize complex issues and explain them succinctly and simply. Working well with others of varied backgrounds and experiences comes easy to you-and you seek to understand their interests and motivations to help build the best mutual outcomes. People think of you as someone who puts others at ease and knows how to create agreement among parties. You also hold your ground on the non-negotiables.

Your Primary Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Serve as the initial  point of contact for consideration of standard and non-standard contracts, with special emphasis on SaaS, licensing, vendor, non-disclosure, consulting, and sales agreements, including significant contracts with governmental entities.
  • Liaison with legal, finance and other teams within the HopSkipDrive organization to flag internal and external changes to standard terms and conditions.
  • Manage workload independently with minimal guidance and in accordance with expected SOPs, sometimes in a dynamic environment of high volume and urgency.
  • Leverage professional and personal experiences to identify solutions to address concerns while aligning to HopSkipDrive’s objectives.
  • Identify and assist in the implementation/communication of contracting improvements, as appropriate, and often with collaboration from other departments and stakeholders.
  • Ensure executed contracts, drafts, supporting documentation, correspondence and approvals are saved to the company’s contract management system – Ironclad.
  • Assist with the initial review of RFPs to ensure submissions align with HopSkipDrive’s standard operating procedures across multiple departments and elevate issues as necessary.

What we’re looking for

  • A minimum of 4 years of contract manager work experience.
  • Paralegal Certificate from an ABA accredited paralegal program.
  • Experience reviewing and editing contracts under the guidance of the legal department, with particular government contracting experience at the state and local level.
  • Experience using a contract management system (i.e., Ironclad) and sales team platform (i.e., Sales Force).
  • Familiarity and proficiency interpreting insurance policies and determining if the organization’s insurance coverage meets minimum contract requirements.
  • Previous experience managing the vendor procurement process for a high growth, scaling organization, including the representation of historically targeted and oppressed communities in the procurement process.
  • Experience participating in the RFP process during the solicitation, submission, and post-award phases.

Helpful Qualifications:

  • Project management experience
  • Certifications from the National Contract Management Association:
    • Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM)
    • Certified Commercial Contracts Manager (CCCM)
    • Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM)
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute
    • Lean Six Sigma experience or similar

What you will get

We want you to be an owner in our company and share in executing our vision, so every full-time employee has equity.  In addition, we offer competitive market comp, unlimited vacation, FSA, medical, dental and vision, 401(k), weekly catered lunches, and an opportunity to work for a uniquely positioned, VC-backed company in a hugely attractive space with significant upside potential. We also offer a Learning and Development stipend, per year, available to all employees after 3 months of employment.

Equal Opportunity Employer

HopSkipDrive is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.  All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, veteran status, or any other protected class.
