The Competitive Intelligence Manager – HCM will execute competitive intelligence initiatives to improve sales effectiveness. We are seeking a strong leader to fill a key role within the Competitive Intelligence organization who will identify the differentiation of Sage’s HCM offerings as compared to our competitors, provide actionable competitive intelligence to key stakeholders, and influence the roadmap of Sage People.

  • Manage the execution of competitive intelligence initiatives
  • Research and keep current on market/competitor trends and news
  • Synthesize research to formulate competitive sales strategies, positioning, and up-to-date tools (battle cards, analyses, competitive responses, etc.), to improve sales effectiveness
  • Train sales teams and channel partners on competitive strategies and messages
  • Foster internal sharing of competitive information
  • Work with stakeholders (executive team, product management and marketing, sales leadership) to ensure competitive messages have maximum impact, and to shape future strategies
  • Define and report on competitive metrics to key stakeholders
  • Manage win/loss reporting to provide actionable intelligence


  • 3+ years of experience in an HCM pre-sales or implementation role, or equivalent HR experience working for a channel partner or HCM user
  • Experience with HCM or HRIS systems required, with systems such as Workday HCM, SAP SuccessFactors, Ultimate Ultipro, Oracle HCM Cloud, BambooHR
  • Strong business acumen and HR domain knowledge with the ability to leverage existing experience and research to be credible across a wide range of industries
  • Composed in engaging with leadership groups, pre-sales, sales and product teams
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, including developing messaging and positioning (typically in PowerPoint)
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Understanding of software deal dynamics and ability to think strategically about driving software opportunities forward
  • Ability to provide rapid responses/analysis of competitor news
  • Get it done mentality – willingness to roll up your sleeves in a fast-paced environment
  • Drive and desire to take on additional responsibilities over time in a high growth environment
  • Prior competitive intelligence work experience is not required
  • Willingness to travel domestically (about 20%)
