Job Overview

The Community Center Manager is responsible for all aspects of the front desk and community center operations. A successful manager will have excellent communication, organization, and administrative skills; leadership potential; and sensitivity to the strengths, needs, and challenges of all community members, including Friendly House employees. In collaboration with other staff, the Community Center Manager will oversee upkeep of the fitness room, full-sized gymnasium, and rooms available for rent. The Community Center Manager helps to set the tone for our agency culture by being a friendly, highly competent, and compassionate first point of contact for people visiting our center, as well as hiring and supervising staff who exemplify those traits.


Position Type

Full-time, non-exempt. 40 hours per week. $21 per hour.


Job Conditions

This job is performed in-person in a supportive, fast-paced, environment, in a wheelchair-accessible building, and in non-accessible buildings in the community. Non-traditional work hours will be required.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Oversees Friendly House Community Center components including internal and external rentals, classes, and memberships.
  • Hiring, supervising, scheduling, coaching, supporting, and managing front desk staff.
  • Responsible for creating and enforcing community rules and guidelines that help to ensure a welcoming and safe community for all.
  • Create and oversee front desk staff schedule, including breaks, lunches, and scheduled time off, and serve as back-up as needed to ensure full coverage during business hours.
  • Ensures the facility is kept tidy, thus contributing to a welcoming atmosphere for all members of the community.
  • Works to increase the number of members, supports sales (punch cards, t-shirts, jam, water, etc.) and supports all aspects of revenue generation for the Community Center.
  • Helps develop and monitor the Community Center annual budget and helps track Community Center expenses and revenue.
  • Collaborate with community partners and other agency staff to support activities and events happening within the Community Center.
  • Collaborate with Community Enrichment Coordinator to secure space for programming within the Community Center including classes, events, and activities to appeal to a diverse community.
  • Inspires and motivates staff to reach personal, team, and organizational goals.
  • Models and ensures high-quality customer service.
  • Contributes toward Friendly House’s community building mission.
  • Practices and models good self-care.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum of three years of progressive responsibility in leading and managing teams.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.; including tables and chairs for room set-up and break-down for rentals/events/activities.
  • Must obtain a Food Handlers Card and First Aid/CPR Certifications within 60 days of employment.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Nonprofit or recreation experience is a plus.
