Position Summary

The Communications Coordinator is a vital part of the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust’s communications team, supporting the Communications Manager to carry out a wide range of promotional needs for the organization.  

The communications team collaborates with both internal and external colleagues to promote the work of the Greenway Trust and its partners. Additionally, the team works to raise public awareness of the Greenway’s recent National Heritage Area designation and shares visitor-focused content to help people connect with the landscape and its stories firsthand. The team also helps to promote organizational fundraising efforts and plays a critical role in centering diversity, equity, and inclusion within our communications efforts for both internal and external audiences. 

The successful candidate is an excellent writer with a curiosity to learn about many diverse topics, such as land conservation, environmental education, transportation, cultural heritage, public policy, and natural resource management. They should be able to work across many different project types and be comfortable writing for and managing social media channels. The Communications Coordinator should have strong organizational skills and personal initiative, with the ability to manage overlapping projects and successfully meet deadlines as part of a team. Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into their work. 

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Write, curate, and publish content for all Greenway communications channels and projects, including website (, blogs, emails, e-newsletters, social media, brochures/handouts, event invitations, etc.  
  • Support logistics and promotion for major public Greenway Trust events and represent the organization at outreach and community events as needed. 
  • Assist with media relations efforts and tracking. 
  • Help with grant writing, grant reporting, and other fundraising initiatives. 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Education or work experience in journalism, communications, or related fields.  
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.  
  • Willingness to learn about issues that the Greenway Trust works on, about partners we work with, and how to use specialized technology tools (Salesforce, Campaign Monitor [email marketing], Adobe Creative Suite [graphics], WordPress [web design], photography, etc.). 

Reports To: Communications Manager 

Compensation: Salary is $46,000 to $53,000 annually depending on experience. The Greenway Trust offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental and vision plans, paid vacation and sick leave, retirement plan, ORCA pass, and more.   

Schedule: The Communications Coordinator is a full-time, non-exempt position, who typically works Monday to Friday with occasional evening and Saturday events.  

Location: As a result of the COVID pandemic, Greenway Trust employees are currently working remotely. However, the organization will be moving to a hybrid model working both remotely and in the office as the COVID numbers continue to decline. When that happens, this position will be based at the Greenway Trust’s Seattle office (2701 First Avenue, Suite 240, Seattle, WA 98121) and will include work from home opportunities. The position includes occasional travel to sites around the Greenway. The Greenway Trust provides a work laptop computer and cell phone to employees. 

COVID Requirements: Vaccination requirements are in place for Greenway Trust staff and volunteers.
