Full-Time CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) Los Angeles

The People Concern is urgently hiring CNAs for our facilities in Compton: The Willow Tree Inn and SOLAR!

Multiple shifts available. Full-time positions are eligible for benefits: Medical, Vision, Dental, Life Insurance, 403(b) Retirement plan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide orientation to the facility to new clients
  2. Oversee room maintenance and enforce housekeeping hygiene guidelines in a trauma-informed manner
  3. Manage the clean linen exchanges once a week
  4. In occasion provide one-on-one personal care assistance to residents as directed (grooming, feeding, and other support).
  5. On occasion, help transfer, lift, raise, and turn residents; utilize proper lifting and body mechanics to prevent personal injury.
  6. Recognize and identify limitation in providing care and seeks help from appropriate staff.
  7. Obtain vital signs twice a day am/pm times; once a month take weights measurements, and upon intake.
  8. Regularly check on residents to insure comfort, dignity and privacy; report accurate results to achieve the best possible member care.
  9. Learn and implement infection control policies.
  10. Recognize changes in resident’s condition and ask appropriate questions to clarify the situation; report changes to LVN/NP.
  11. Prepare member room for admission; provide member orientation to room and admission pack supplies
  12. Assist in toileting needs of residents and empty drainage collection devices
  13. Work in collaboration with other shelter staff to maintain smooth operation of the shelter, which may include assisting with food service or other duties as assigned
  14. Assist with meal preparation and implementation to ensure that all clients receive adequate nutrition
  15. Order office and program supplies when needed
  16. Facilitate client groups to assist with life skills development
  17. Develop effective, trusting relationships with clients using a client-centered approach that includes motivational interviewing, harm reduction and trauma Informed care
  18. Proactively create a supportive environment to ensure clients’ progress towards permanent housing and psycho-social rehabilitation
  19. Intervene during crises to actively de-escalate situations, ensuring safety for both staff and clients
  20. Ensure that the physical site is well-maintained and safe
  21. Send repair requests to Operations Department, when needed
  22. Communicate effectively, and in a timely manner, with management, co-workers, and clients
  23. Maintain client confidentiality at all times, while following agency, state, and HIPAA laws
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Current, unrestricted CNA license/registration in California
  2. Minimum one year experience as CNA
  3. Able to read, understand, and follow individual member care plans
  4. Able to lift and transfer residents into wheelchair, bed or care, etc.
  5. Able to obtain and record resident’s temperature, pulse, respiration, weight
  6. Able to assist with post-mortem care
  7. Able to meet all health, compliance and competency requirements
  8. Detail oriented with effective time management, organizational, written, verbal, and computer skills
  9. Knowledge of infection control procedures, including proper hand washing techniques, contact with blood spills, and standard precautions
  10. Minimum of one year experience providing services to individuals that have a history of homeless, mentally illness, or are dually-diagnosed
  11. Obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certification
  12. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred

Work Environment

  • Combination of field and office environment
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend; occasionally lift or carry up to 35 lbs.
  • On occasion walk or drive to different local sites
  • Will necessitate working in busy and loud environments
  • Will be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise and odor
  • May need to bend, stoop, twist and sit throughout the day
