The SickKids Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology is recognized as one of the leading paediatric diagnostic imaging services in North America and as a result this is a unique opportunity for you to have a significant and long-lasting impact not only at the Hospital but in improving the health of children across the world.

This position reports to the Vice President Clinical Operations. The successful candidate will oversee a department of 170 FTEs, an annual budget of $23.5M, and over $60M in equipment to provide all major imaging services. In partnership with Radiologist in Chief, you will lead the development and implementation of the vision and strategic plan of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology in alignment with the strategic directions of the Hospital. A key aspect of this role will be to manage internal and external relationships as well as foster partnerships that support the goals of the Hospital. Your leadership will further enhance an environment of quality, innovation, collaboration and integrated planning and decision making. You will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to highly skilled and energized teams committed to developing and implementing innovative service delivery models which are focused on improving the health of children in our community and providing the highest quality of clinical care and service. You will drive effective operations and evolve strategic alliances to deliver services that bring high value to our patients.  You will play a key leadership role in transforming access for children requiring diagnostic imaging services, including providing oversight of key clinical capital redevelopment efforts specific to Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology as it pertains to SickKids campus redevelopment planning and implementation. Additionally, you will support the academic mission and the generation of new knowledge.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do

  • Responsible for the clinical operations of all diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology services
  • Partners with a range of health care professionals to ensure the delivery of high-quality care and service to the communities we serve and support
  • Monitors, oversees, and is accountable for the fiscal operations of the program
  • Provides leadership and direction for the portfolio to achieve outcomes consistent with the strategic plans of the hospital
  • Supports the wellness, and professional development of our people
  • Champions equity, diversity, inclusion and access for both patients and staff
  • Ensure that a comprehensive, integrated Quality Management program is in place with clear key performance indicators and a focus on continually improving care delivery and processes
  • In partnership with Chiefs, Department Heads and operational leadership is responsible for service quality, safety and access
  • Ensures systems are in place to monitor key process and outcome metrics
  • Promotes and advances clinical and operational best practices across the Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology portfolio
  • Develops and evolves strategic alliances and partnerships internally and externally
  • Supports and advances the research and teaching mission of SickKids and the Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology portfolio
  • Leverages external relationships to ensure business/organizational interests are supported
  • Highly engaged with committees at local and provincial levels to advocate for enhancements to the care of children requiring diagnostic services
  • Keeps clinically current to inform the strategic direction of the portfolio
  • Interfaces with the Ontario Health, and Ministry of Health and Long Term Care on behalf of the hospital
  • Engages with SickKids Foundation to support donor interests

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • Master’s degree in a health-related discipline, health administration or MBA
  • Membership and registration with a relevant regulatory body including the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario (CMRTO) preferred
  • 6-8 years professional experience in progressive leadership roles
  • Proven ability to establish and evaluate benchmarks, goals, and objectives for performance improvement aligned with corporate strategic direction; establish performance metrics and monitoring systems
  • Well-developed operational and business management skills including stewardship of multi-million-dollar budgets
  • A dynamic leadership style coupled with an open-minded and flexible approach that will inspire your team to innovate and improve
  • The ability to provide visionary leadership to an interdisciplinary team; demonstrated ability of successfully managing in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment where there are multiple and often highly contentious priorities that must be addressed
  • Considered a valued thought leader and effective champion and advocate for Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology
  • Exemplary skills in team building, relationship-building and communication to build trust and confidence with diverse partners in the hospital and externally
  • Exceptional negotiating and influencing skills, including the ability to obtain buy-in and understand where concessions can be made and when policy or practice must be followed
  • Experience successfully supporting diverse partners and complexities; strong consulting and facilitation skills; and experience establishing credibility and working relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Experience leading transformational change
  • A highly collaborative, collegial and flexible approach to working with physicians, clinical directors, interprofessional leaders, and external partners
  • Superior and advanced written, oral communication and presentation skills
  • Results-oriented and patient-focused with a commitment to excellence
  • Demonstrated high Emotional Intelligence behavioural competency
