Department Summary:

The missions of the Financial Aid office are to assist students and families in navigating the world of Higher Education and the costs associated with obtaining a degree. Successful candidates will be staff members that can work with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the Financial Aid office in serving and supporting our racially and ethnically diverse campus community.

Position Summary:

This position provides a welcoming and inclusive environment by providing customer service to a diverse campus community.

The Student Financial Aid Clerk V is a member of the Financial Aid Department residing within the Office of Student Financial Aid. Service is delivered in-person, by telephone, email, electronic media and print. The Clerk V provides customer service and will work closely with the financial aid assistant directors and associate directors to ensure that communications from the financial aid office to students and families is clear and concise.

Tour of Duty: Monday – Friday, 8:45-5:00

(Subject to Change)

(Saturday and Sunday as days off)

(Full Time, 12-month AFSCME Position)This is an AFSCME unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Medical or Religious ExemptionsAn employee may request an exemption to the vaccination requirement based on the existence of medical contraindication to vaccination. In addition, an employee may request an exemption to the vaccination requirement based on a sincere religious belief. In both cases, an employee will be required to submit documentation to support the request for an exemption. Employees who secure an exemption may be required to take additional precautions in the workplace and will be required to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing through the university’s Wellness Center.

Position Type: AFSCME Classified

Essential Duties:

• Processing and distributing federal verification paperwork for financial aid file review

• Document tracking, prepare mailings, document scanning and imagining/BDMS, data entry, and assist students with their FSA ID and FAFSA application on a drop-in basis during office hours.

• Assist with developing/maintaining Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

• Participating in on and off campus events that promote financial aid awareness and engagement.

This position requires attention to detail and will support enrollment and retention objectives of the University by communicating accurate financial aid and student accounts information.

Required Qualifications:

Must have (4) years full-time or equivalent part-time clerical experience, or any equivalent combination of the required experience and substation as specified in the state jobs specifications.

• Commitment to customer service excellence/support to enhance an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion.

• Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

• Passion for and commitment to social justice, racial justice, and civic engagement.

• Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of office management

• Ability to maintain accurate records

• Ability to establish a rapport and maintain harmonious working relationships with persons of varied ethnic, cultural and/or economic backgrounds

• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and multi-task

• Ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively in oral expression;

• Ability to give written and oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner;

• Knowledge of general office procedures.

• Strong attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint with Banner and other student information system experience desirable.

Salary Range: $ 1,785.03 bi-weekly (Grade 15 – Step 1)
