Overall Responsibilities

Reporting to the Channel Strategy Manager, Alternative, Canada BU, the Category Development Manager, Alternative, Canada BU is responsible for the development, roll out, and score carding of customer category growth plans/KPIs and driving JWEL category leadership with retail partners within the assigned channel.

 

Specific Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Responsible for building a trusted partnership with retailers in an advisor capacity while providing tactical execution support including but not limited to planogramming and promotional planning.
  • Support the development of best-in-class MAPS standards (Merchandising, Assortment/Distribution, Promotions, Shelving/Space) with associated KPIs to guide sales execution plans within the channel.
  • Use POS tools to build, track and report against channel and retailer KPIs, proactively identifying key opportunities, risks and solutions to close emerging gaps vs annual plan.
  • Play a leadership role in portfolio management for the channel, providing guidance on SKU rationalization and Innovation plans.
  • Work directly with Key account managers to deliver category strategies to sell in MAPS plans and incremental opportunities within the channel.
  • Provide analytical support to help drive channel plans during the annual business planning process.
  • Provide category and retailer inputs into the forecasting/IBP process as required.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process development and improvement to increase business efficiency.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in business administration or similar field
  • 3-5 years of Category Development experience in a CPG environment, working across Grocery, Drug and Mass channels (VMS Category experience is an asset).
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage Analytical/POS tools (Nielsen/IQVA, Retailer POS, Tableau, Shopper Intelligence and others) to drive strategy, KPIs, execution and measurement.
  • Exceptional ability to translate data and insights into a compelling business case (storytelling).
  • A track record of success in executing brand and category growth initiatives with retailers.
  • Exceptional planning, organizing and coordination skills across multiple projects and initiatives.
  • Ability to proactively identify problems/circumvent roadblocks to deliver solutions and meet commitments on time.
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, senior business leaders and key stakeholders to strategize, plan, coordinate and resolve problems.
  • Strives to understand the needs/perspectives of others and remain open to influence.
  • Ability to maintain composure and constructive focus at all times.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (reading, writing, listening, oral, presentation).
