The Organization and Role

About Access Now

Access Now is a growing international human rights organization dedicated to defending and extending the digital rights of users at risk around the world, including issues of privacy, security, freedom of expression, and transparency. Our policy, advocacy, technology, and operations teams have staff presences in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East/North Africa (MENA), North America, and South/Southeast Asia, to provide global support to our mission.

About this role

The Campaigner’s primary responsibility is to passionately defend human rights in our increasingly digital world, and leverage the opportunity to strengthen the impact of Access Now’s campaigns, community engagement initiatives, and media outreach at local, regional, and global levels.

This regional campaigner role covers the entire Southeast Asia portfolio, paying particular attention to our growing work on Myanmarand may also cover strategic projects across the broader Asia Pacific region as capacity allows. The Campaigner is housed within the Advocacy team and reports through the Deputy Director – Advocacy. What you will do

  • Identify opportunities for impact and develop campaign strategies to capture them, managing and coordinating actions to address human rights concerns for individuals and communities across the region
  • Balance a portfolio of rapid-response and long-term projects that is both sustainable and scalable. This will include leading country-level initiatives connected to global Access Now campaigns like #KeepItOn#WhyID, and #BanBS,as well as many others in furtherance of the organization’s global and regional strategies
  • Produce engaging and dynamic content for a range of local and international audiences, including articles, op-eds, speeches, campaign materials, press releases, blog posts, social media, and multimedia content
  • Coordinate in-depth rapid-response publications for Myanmar, in particular, and other priority countries to report on digital rights threats as they develop and to deliver resources to affected communities
  • Expand our reach beyond the digital rights community, developing communities of action to impact decision makers, building an intersectional partner network, and connecting directly with the at-risk individuals we aim to serve, as well as media and other key stakeholders who can help advance our advocacy goals
  • Participate in and organize events that facilitate coalition building, strategic partnerships, and direct connection with relevant decision makers
  • Contribute to RightsConprogramming and arrange meetings with regional stakeholders
  • Work closely with other regional team members from Policy and the Digital Security Helpline to map strategic growth and opportunities for deepening our work in support of communities at serious risk throughout the region, and in response to regional developments that impact the global digital rights landscape
  • Steward resources available for translation, design, and additional project-based support to deliver high-impact advocacy products in a sustainable workflow
  • Coordinate work with regional counterparts and the Advocacy team by setting clear advocacy plans and priorities, monitoring progress, and proactively communicating as conditions change. This is a collaborative role that requires teamwork, consensus building, and mutual respect, including in decision-making processes around shared work

You’re self-motivated, deeply invested in Access Now’s mission, and excited about collaborating with a diverse global team.
