Full-Time
Reports to: Chief of Communications and Strategic Initiatives

 

Organization:

Issue One/Issue One Action is the leading crosspartisan political reform group in Washington, D.C. We unite Republicans, Democrats, and independents in the movement to fix our broken political system and build a democracy that works for everyone. Issue One is building a multi-year initiative to win game-changing legislation to increase transparency, strengthen ethics and accountability, reduce the corrosive influence of big money in politics, and to strengthen U.S. elections. Most recently, Issue One built the National Council on Election Integrity and led its $15 million Count Every Vote campaign to defend the integrity of the 2020 elections and push back against attempts to undermine faith in our democratic process.

 

Position:

The Campaigns Specialist is part of Issue One’s growing and dynamic communications, research, and campaigns team. The Specialist will work under the supervision of the Chief of Communications and Strategic Initiatives (COC) to operationalize Issue One’s advocacy and outreach campaigns, including owning the field activities and paid media of Issue One’s legislative advocacy and public relations efforts. 

 

The Specialist will play a significant role in developing campaign strategies and plans to help Issue One & Issue One Action advance ground-breaking political reform legislation and building public demand for sweeping democracy reforms. In addition to helping to drive our campaigns and execute priority tactics (such as paid media, public opinion research, grassroots and grasstops mobilization), the Specialist will oversee the continued cultivation and activation of existing activists and the identification and mobilization of new reform-minded constituencies. The Specialist will work with the COC to engage key constituency networks around the country to build bipartisan support for political reform.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Assist the COC with devising and implementing campaign plans to advance bipartisan democracy reform legislation and create the political climate for making change;
  • Work with the COC to design and implement grasstops and grassroots organizing plans in key congressional districts and states, identified in coordination with the legislative team;
  • Oversee research and intelligence-gathering about key audiences, districts, states, and lawmakers;
  • Execute outreach activities in key congressional districts and states, including working closely with consultants, vendors, and staff;
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with political reform and related organizations in Washington, DC and on the ground in target states and districts;
  • Work with the COC and Communications team to expand organizational reach by assisting with social media advertising, outreach, and list-building campaigns;
  • Work with COC and Communications team to help develop content and materials to support outreach and organizing activities such as flyers, posters, op-eds, digital ads, print ads, talking points, handouts, press releases, and more;
  • Work with COC and Communications team to devise and implement marketing, advertising and social media strategy to bring more Americans into the bipartisan political reform movement and help further the national dialogue around solutions;
  • Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for Issue One Action (IO’s c4)
  • Oversee brand and message testing for various campaigns and audiences, including working with the COC to develop research goals, vet and hire research firms, analyze research results, and ensure subsequent campaign communications reflect tested messaging;
  • Working with the COC and Policy and Programs Counsel ensure that Issue One/Issue On Action’s campaign activities comply with legal regulations concerning (c)(3) and (c)(4) status; and, 
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO, executive director, legislative team, and other IO staff to complete campaign objectives.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

 

The Campaigns Specialist must have:

 

  • 3-5 years of political, field organizing, and/or issue campaign experience or equivalent experience that would prepare the candidate for this position;
  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic legislative and issue campaign plans;
  • Experience centering gender equity and racial justice in issue organizing;
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communications skills, including ability to present complex ideas and information orally to a diverse set of audiences; 
  • Proven ability to lead projects with colleagues and maintain a sense of humor.
  • Proven ability to juggle lots of priorities under pressure;
  • Highly organized, motivated, and detail oriented;
  • Experience or familiarity with key campaign tactics:
    • Building coalitions and working with diverse constituencies to achieve a common goal;
    • Grasstops and grassroots organizing;
    • Social media and digital mobilization;
    • Drafting video and radio scripts, print ad copy, and digital ad copy, as well as experience overseeing the production, purchasing, and targeting of advertisements;
    • Creating and managing campaign budgets;
    • Use of qualitative and quantitative public opinion research for advocacy campaigns;
    • Hosting and managing events
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace;
  • Able and willing to incorporate feedback into their work.

 

Location

This is a full-time, remote position based in Washington, DC. This job requires travel throughout the United States and regular travel to Issue One’s office in Washington, DC.

 

Salary & Benefits:

 

$55,000 – $70,000
