Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers ten applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Summary of Position:
This is an Annual Renewable position with the possibility of converting to Tenure Track. Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking a qualified full-time faculty to teach in the Human Resources Management program. As a faculty member you will, develop and teach a variety of courses related to the college’s Human Resources Management program. Foster student achievement of discipline-specific, college-wide, and transfer degree learning outcomes. Assess and modify curriculum as needed to meet the changing needs of industry. Teach classes in a variety of timeframes and delivery formats. Work with other faculty and administrators to plan, implement, and update program and program materials. Take part in college activities, student advising, mentoring part-time faculty and scheduling. This position reports to the dean of the School of Business.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Plan, develop, revise and teach a variety of instructional objectives and experiences appropriate to the program goals and approved curriculum
• Assist in the administration of Human Resource Certificate Institute recertification provider program and SHRM approved provider program
• Participation in the college LWTech SHRM student Chapter as advisor or co-advisor and work with SHRM, NHRMA, LWTech ASG, and other related HR associations
• Coordinate with the department chair for the college bookstore on book orders
• Help with grant development and essential reporting
• Model and teach productive and constructive work habits, study skills, and core skills as identified by the college; develop and incorporate instructional methods and modes that support best learning practices and adapt to varied learner populations, preparing students to be work-ready graduates
• Develop and maintain classroom processes and procedures, including safety, that follow local, state, and federal policies and procedures
• Develop and assess program, curriculum, and educational outcomes; keep accurate learning and program records so that data supports decisions in grading and program evaluation; Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through standard instruments such as syllabi, and provide clear, timely feedback
• Hold students accountable to behavioral expectations that align with industry skill sets and follow campus policies; deal consistently and fairly with all students
• Advise students on educational and career planning; assist in connecting students with industry
• Develop and maintain industry and community support for the Human Resources Management program by actively engaging with industry; attending advisory committee meetings and seeking industry guidance to provide program and sector advice; maintain relationships with local employers, feeder programs, businesses and organizations that relate to this field
• Develop new skills directed at program needs; pursue professional development activities to stay current in both teaching and the Human Resource Management field; maintain professional certifications
• Evaluate and assist other program faculty and staff as assigned, including managing instructional support technicians, volunteers, and work-study students
• Engage in budget development, grant planning and program budget expenditures to best meet program needs and anticipate growth; participate in marketing of the Human Resources Management program, and in outreach to new audiences to assure program sustainability and growth
• Participate with campus individuals who are creating and implementing grants, scholarship, and direct donations to the program
• Actively participate as team member in program management and campus initiatives; be familiar with and advance the college’s mission, vision, and goals and how they relate to the program; attend and participate in department and college meetings as appropriate; participate in college accreditation, program review and college committees as specified in the faculty bargained agreement
• Create, nurture and contribute to effective and harmonious relationships with the department team through communication, teamwork and sharing of duties and interdependence
• Maintain regular office hours; respond effectively and promptly to student inquiries, inquiries from the general public and to division and college personnel.
• Assist in maintaining all HR accreditations (HRCI & SHRM)
• Ability to instruct classes on campus and online
• Take part in college accreditation, program review and college committees as specified in the faculty bargained agreement
• This position will serve as the Department Chair for the AAS degree
• Perform other professional activities as approved or assigned by the dean
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree required in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Management or closely related field
• 5 years related work experience at a high level of responsibility in areas related to Human Resource Management
• Human Resource Management generalist knowledge and experience
• College teaching experience
• Previous experience with an online course system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard , Sakai, Moodie)
• Willing and able to teach HyFlex1 classes (simultaneous in-class and online)
• Active Professional Certification – SHRM – SCP
• Interest and ability to gain Diversity Social Justice (DSJ) designation for LWTech
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
• Demonstrated commitment to or experience with diverse and/or historically marginalized or underrepresented populations
• Due to the diversity of the college population, we encourage applicants who are multilingual
Preferred Qualifications:
• HRCI Professional certifications (PHR, SPHR), preferred
• Professional certifications within the related discipline are preferred, (GPHR, CCP etc.)
• LWTech DSJ designation, preferred

Compensation & Work Schedule This position is for the 2024-2025 Academic year and begins September 2024. Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. This positions ranges from $78,347-$96,334 per year; salary is for an academic year (173 days) and as may be adjusted according to the faculty bargained agreement. Working hours are usually Monday through Friday, with daytime meetings and classes in the evening with some evening events, advising and other flexible hours as needed . Summer quarter employment may be available based on student enrollment.
